3. Components Overview

Precisa Blood Glucose Monitor:

The monitor is the central unit for reading blood glucose levels. It features a large backlit display for easy viewing of results, time, and date. It has 'Set' and 'Mem' buttons for navigation and accessing stored readings.

Test Strips:

Precisa test strips are designed for use with the Precisa monitor. Each strip contains chemicals that react with glucose in the blood sample to produce an electrical current, which the meter reads to determine the blood glucose level. Store test strips in their original vial and close the cap immediately after removing a strip.

Lancing Device and Lancets:

The lancing device is used to obtain a small blood sample, typically from the fingertip. It holds a sterile lancet, which is a small needle used to prick the skin. The device allows for adjustable penetration depth to minimize discomfort.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation:

The Precisa Blood Glucose Monitor uses one CR2032 battery, which is included. The battery compartment is located on the back of the device. Ensure the battery is inserted with the correct polarity (+/-).

4.2 Setting Up the Lancing Device:

  1. Unscrew the cap of the lancing device.
  2. Insert a new sterile lancet firmly into the lancet holder.
  3. Twist off the protective cap of the lancet.
  4. Replace the lancing device cap.
  5. Adjust the penetration depth by rotating the cap. Start with a lower setting and increase if needed to get a sufficient blood sample.
  6. Pull back the cocking mechanism until it clicks, indicating it is ready to use.

5. Operating Instructions

Performing a Blood Glucose Test:

The Precisa monitor provides fast and accurate results in approximately 5 seconds, requiring only a small blood sample (0.8 µL).

  1. Prepare Your Hands: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, then dry them completely.
  2. Insert Test Strip: Remove a test strip from its vial and immediately close the vial cap. Insert the test strip into the test strip port of the meter. The meter will automatically turn on.
  3. Obtain Blood Sample: Use the prepared lancing device to prick the side of your fingertip. Gently squeeze your finger to form a small drop of blood.
  4. Apply Blood Sample: Touch the tip of the test strip to the blood drop. The blood will be drawn into the strip automatically. Do not apply blood to the top of the strip.
  5. Read Results: The meter will display your blood glucose result after approximately 5 seconds. The result will be stored in the meter's memory.
  6. Dispose: Carefully remove the used test strip and dispose of it along with the used lancet in a sharps container.
