Installation Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to install your X AUTOHAUX Gas Spring Lift Supports. Proper installation ensures optimal performance and safety.
NOTE:
- Ensure the gas strut rod is lubricated at all times for proper main seal function and improved cushioning.
- The gas strut is delivered in an extended state. DO NOT attempt to compress it by hand before installation.

Image: A comprehensive diagram illustrating the three key steps for installing the gas strut: marking upper and lower mounting points, and adjustment.
Step 1: Mark the Upper Mounting Point
When positioning the gas spring, begin by identifying the upper mounting point. This point should be approximately 1/3 of the total length of the lid from its hinge. This initial placement helps in determining the optimal leverage for the strut.
Step 2: Mark the Lower Mounting Point
Open the lid to the desired angle you wish it to be held. It is important to note that the strut itself does not need to be perfectly vertical when marking the lower mounting point. The precise angle and position of the gas strut installation are critical for its effective operation.
Step 3: Adjustment
If the lid does not stay open or is too weak, you can adjust the upper mounting point. Move the upper mounting point 0.79 inches (2 cm) closer to the hinge on the lid. Repeat this adjustment as needed, moving it 0.79 inches at a time, until the lid holds securely.
Conversely, if the lid cannot be closed, move the upper mounting point 0.79 inches (2 cm) away from the hinge on the lid. Continue adjusting 0.79 inches at a time until the lid closes properly.
Note: The lower mounting point may also need to be adjusted in conjunction with the upper point to achieve the desired functionality and angle (typically between 90-120 degrees).
Operation
Once correctly installed, your X AUTOHAUX gas spring lift supports will assist in the smooth opening and closing of the supported lid or cover. They are designed to hold the lid securely in its open position, preventing accidental closure and providing easy access. To close the lid, apply gentle downward pressure until the gas spring fully compresses.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your gas spring lift supports, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Regular Cleaning: Keep the piston rod clean and free from dirt, dust, and debris. Wipe with a clean, damp cloth as needed.
- Lubrication: Periodically check that the piston rod remains lubricated. If it appears dry, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the rod to maintain smooth operation and protect the seal.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the gas springs and their mounting points for any signs of wear, damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Replace any damaged components immediately.
- Avoid Overloading: Do not exceed the specified weight capacity of the gas springs. Overloading can lead to premature failure.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your gas spring lift supports, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Lid does not stay open or is too weak:
- Review "Step 3: Adjustment" in the Installation section. The upper mounting point may need to be moved closer to the hinge.
- Ensure the gas springs are correctly rated for the weight of your lid.
- Check for any obstructions preventing full extension.
- Lid cannot be closed:
- Review "Step 3: Adjustment" in the Installation section. The upper mounting point may need to be moved further away from the hinge.
- Verify that the installation angle is appropriate (typically 90-120 degrees when open).
- Squeaking or grinding noise:
- The piston rod may require lubrication. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant.
- Check mounting points for looseness or misalignment.
- Gas spring feels stiff or sluggish:
- Ensure the piston rod is clean and lubricated.
- Check for any binding or friction at the mounting points.
