2. General Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions when using power tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual for future reference.
2.1 Personal Safety
- Eye Protection: Always wear appropriate eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) that comply with current national standards.
- Hearing Protection: Use hearing protection during extended periods of operation.
- Respiratory Protection: Wear a dust mask, especially when grinding materials that produce fine dust.
- Proper Attire: Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair that can get caught in moving parts.
- Stay Alert: Do not operate the tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
2.2 Electrical Safety
- Ensure the power supply matches the voltage specified on the tool's nameplate.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators.
2.3 Tool Use and Care
- Secure Workpiece: Always secure the workpiece firmly. Do not hold it by hand.
- Proper Guarding: Ensure all guards are in place and properly adjusted before operation.
- Accessory Compatibility: Only use accessories that are designed for your specific angle grinder and are rated for the tool's maximum RPM.
- Kickback Prevention: The Metabo S-Automatic mechanical safety slip clutch is designed to reduce the likelihood of kickback by helping the user maintain control if the accessory jams. However, always maintain a firm grip and proper stance.
- Overload Protection: Do not force the tool. It will perform better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off
- To turn the grinder ON, slide the switch forward. For continuous operation, push the switch forward and then press down on the front part of the switch.
- To turn the grinder OFF, release the switch. If locked on, press the rear part of the switch to release it.
5.2 Grinding and Cutting Techniques
- Grinding: Hold the grinder at a 15-30 degree angle to the workpiece. Apply moderate pressure and move the grinder smoothly across the surface. The Metabo LONGLIFE MOTOR provides increased power and durability for demanding tasks.
- Cutting: For cutting, hold the grinder at a 90-degree angle to the workpiece. Use the edge of the cutting wheel. Do not apply side pressure to the cutting wheel, as this can cause it to bind or shatter. The Metabo Original Slicer® Wheel is designed for cool, burr-free cutting.
- Flap Discs: The Metabo Flapper Plus disc is ideal for aggressive material removal and finishing. Hold the grinder at a slight angle (5-15 degrees) to the workpiece for optimal performance.
- Material Compatibility: The Plus-Z Grinding Wheel features a proprietary blend of Premium High Performance Zirconia Alumina Abrasive Grains for very aggressive stock removal and excellent wheel life across various materials.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Metabo Angle Grinder.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the ventilation slots to prevent dust buildup, which can affect motor performance and lifespan. Use compressed air to blow out dust from the tool's interior.
- Carbon Brushes: The Metabo LONGLIFE MOTOR is designed for extended service life. If the tool experiences reduced power or intermittent operation, carbon brushes may need inspection or replacement by a qualified service technician.
- Cord Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord for damage. Do not use the tool if the cord is damaged.
- Accessory Storage: Store grinding and cutting wheels in a dry place to prevent moisture absorption, which can compromise their integrity.
