Setup
1. Initial Charge
Before first use, fully charge your Nothing Ear (a) earbuds and charging case. Connect the provided Type-C cable to the charging case and a compatible USB power source. A full charge takes approximately 2 hours.
2. Pairing
- Open the charging case. The earbuds will automatically enter pairing mode (indicated by a flashing white light on the case).
- On your device (smartphone, tablet, etc.), enable Bluetooth.
- Select "Nothing Ear (a)" from the list of available Bluetooth devices.
- Once connected, the light on the case will turn solid white.
3. App Installation
For full functionality and customization, download the Nothing X app from your device's app store (iOS or Android). The app allows you to customize EQ settings, control noise cancellation modes, update firmware, and more.

Operating Instructions
Controls
Nothing Ear (a) features intuitive pinch gestures on the earbud stems for control. These controls can be customized via the Nothing X app.
- Double Tap: Play/Pause music, Answer/End calls. Customizable for track control or voice assistant.
- Triple Tap: Skip tracks (forward/backward). Customizable for voice assistant.
- Tap & Hold: Toggle Noise Control modes (ANC, Transparency, Off). Customizable for voice assistant.
- Double Tap & Hold: Adjust volume (up/down). Customizable for voice assistant.
Noise Control
Experience superior audio with various noise control modes:
- Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): Up to 45 dB of hybrid noise cancellation. Automatically checks for noise leakage and applies optimal cancellation.
- Transparency Mode: Allows you to hear your surroundings while still enjoying your audio.
- Off: Disables noise cancellation and transparency mode.
- Adaptive ANC: Automatically adjusts the level of noise cancellation based on your environment (selectable in Nothing X app).

Maintenance
Cleaning
Regularly clean your earbuds and charging case to ensure optimal performance and hygiene. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
- Earbuds: Gently wipe the earbuds, especially the ear tips and charging contacts. Remove ear tips and clean any earwax or debris from the mesh.
- Charging Case: Wipe the interior and exterior of the charging case. Ensure charging pins are free of debris.
Water Resistance
The Nothing Ear (a) earbuds are rated IP55 for dust and water resistance, making them suitable for workouts and light rain. The charging case is also IP55 rated. Avoid submerging the earbuds or case in water, and do not expose them to saltwater, chlorinated water, or other liquids.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues & Solutions
- No Sound/Low Volume: Ensure earbuds are charged, connected, and volume is up on both earbuds and device. Check for debris in ear tips.
- Connection Issues: Place earbuds back in case, close lid, then reopen to re-enter pairing mode. Forget device in Bluetooth settings and re-pair.
- Microphone Not Working: Ensure earbuds are properly seated. Check device's microphone settings.
- Earbuds Not Charging: Ensure charging cable is securely connected. Clean charging pins on earbuds and case.
Resetting Earbuds
