This image shows the fully assembled VINGLI sand pool filter system, including the filter tank, multi-port valve, pump, and connecting hoses.

The VINGLI sand pool filter system consists of a filter tank, a multi-port valve, and a pump. Proper assembly is crucial for optimal performance and safety.

5.2. Preparing the Filter Tank

  1. Place the filter tank on a firm, level surface near your pool.
  2. Remove the multi-port valve from the top of the tank.
  3. Insert the standpipe into the center of the tank. Ensure it is seated correctly at the bottom.
  4. Cover the top of the standpipe with the provided sand shield or a cup to prevent sand from entering it.
  5. Carefully add the recommended amount of filter sand (28 lbs for the 12-inch tank) or filter balls into the tank. Ensure the sand shield remains in place during this process.
  6. Once the media is added, remove the sand shield and clean any sand from the tank's neck.

This diagram illustrates the two types of filtration media compatible with the system: traditional filter sand and alternative filter balls.

5.3. Installing the Multi-Port Valve

  1. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated on the bottom of the multi-port valve.
  2. Carefully place the multi-port valve onto the tank, aligning the standpipe with the opening in the valve.
  3. Secure the valve to the tank using the provided clamp and bolts. Tighten evenly to ensure a watertight seal.
  4. Thread the pressure gauge into the designated port on the multi-port valve. Do not overtighten.

This image provides a detailed view of the pressure gauge, which monitors the internal pressure of the filter system.

5.4. Connecting the Pump

  1. Position the pump on the base plate next to the filter tank.
  2. Connect the pump's discharge port to the 'PUMP' port on the multi-port valve using the provided hose and clamps. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  3. Connect the pool's skimmer line to the pump's intake port.
  4. Connect the pool's return line to the 'RETURN' port on the multi-port valve.
  5. If applicable, connect a waste hose to the 'WASTE' port for backwashing.

5.5. Initial Startup

  1. Ensure the pool is filled to the proper level.
  2. Prime the pump by filling the pump's filter basket with water until it overflows. Secure the lid.
  3. Set the multi-port valve handle to the 'BACKWASH' position.
  4. Turn on the pump. Allow it to run for 2-3 minutes or until the water flowing out of the waste line is clear.
  5. Turn off the pump.
  6. Set the multi-port valve handle to the 'RINSE' position.
  7. Turn on the pump. Allow it to run for 30-60 seconds.
  8. Turn off the pump.
  9. Set the multi-port valve handle to the 'FILTER' position.
  10. Turn on the pump. The system is now operating in normal filtration mode. Note the initial pressure gauge reading.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Multi-Port Valve Functions

The multi-port valve offers 7 functions for comprehensive pool maintenance. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.

Diagram illustrating the 7 functions of the multi-port valve: Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Recirculate, Waste, Closed, and Winter.

This image displays the multi-port valve with its seven distinct functions, each represented by an icon and label.

  • FILTER: Normal filtration mode. Water flows through the sand bed, is cleaned, and returned to the pool.
  • BACKWASH: Reverses water flow through the filter to clean the sand bed and discharge dirty water out the waste port.
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush residual dirt from the valve and sand bed to the waste port.
  • RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter, circulating water directly back to the pool. Useful for chemical distribution without filtration.
  • WASTE: Drains water directly from the pool out the waste port, bypassing the filter. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
  • CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Use only when servicing the pump or filter.
  • WINTER: Position for winterizing the system, relieving pressure on internal components.

6.2. 24-Hour Timer Operation

The integrated 24-hour timer allows for automated operation of the pump.

This image shows the pump's control panel, highlighting the digital timer display and control buttons.

  • The timer can be preset to run automatically from 1 to 20 hours or for continuous operation.
  • Refer to the pump's specific timer programming instructions for detailed setup.
  • Once programmed, the pump will activate at the set time each day.

6.3. Monitoring Filtration

This image illustrates the filtration process, showing water being drawn from the pool, processed by the filter, and returned as clean water.

Regularly check the pressure gauge. As the filter collects debris, the pressure will rise. A pressure increase of 8-10 PSI above the initial clean filter reading indicates it's time to backwash.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Backwashing and Rinsing

Perform backwashing and rinsing when the pressure gauge indicates a rise of 8-10 PSI above the clean filter pressure, or when water clarity decreases.

  1. Turn off the pump.
  2. Set the multi-port valve to 'BACKWASH'.
  3. Turn on the pump and backwash for 2-3 minutes, or until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear.
  4. Turn off the pump.
  5. Set the multi-port valve to 'RINSE'.
  6. Turn on the pump and rinse for 30-60 seconds.
  7. Turn off the pump.
  8. Set the multi-port valve to 'FILTER' for normal operation.
  9. Turn on the pump.

7.2. Cleaning the Pump Filter Basket

Periodically inspect and clean the pump's filter basket to ensure optimal water flow and prevent debris from reaching the pump impeller.

  1. Turn off the pump and disconnect power.
  2. Close any necessary valves to prevent water flow from the pool.
  3. Remove the pump basket lid.
  4. Remove and empty the basket of any debris.
  5. Rinse the basket with water.
  6. Inspect the O-ring on the lid for damage and ensure it is clean. Lubricate if necessary.
  7. Replace the basket and secure the lid tightly.
  8. Open valves and restore power.

7.3. Winterizing (If Applicable)

For regions with freezing temperatures, proper winterization is essential to prevent damage.

  1. Perform a thorough backwash and rinse.
  2. Drain all water from the filter tank, pump, and connecting hoses. Remove drain plugs.
  3. Set the multi-port valve to the 'WINTER' position to relieve pressure on the internal seal.
  4. Disconnect hoses and store them in a dry, protected area.
  5. Store the pump and filter tank in a dry, frost-free location.
