1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your VINGLI 24-inch Sand Pool Filter with 1.5 HP Pump. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure proper function and safety. This system is designed for filtering water in above-ground and inground swimming pools, circulating and cleaning pool water effectively.

2. Safety Information

Important Safety Instructions:

  • Always disconnect power before servicing the pump or filter.
  • Ensure the electrical supply meets the pump's requirements (115V).
  • This product is UL and ETL listed, meeting recognized safety standards.
  • Do not operate the pump if it is damaged or has a frayed power cord.
  • Keep children away from the pool equipment area.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the pump to prevent overheating.
  • Consult a qualified electrician for electrical connections if unsure.

3. Product Overview and Components

The VINGLI Sand Pool Filter system consists of a durable filter tank, a powerful 1.5 HP pump, and a multi-port valve for various operational modes. Key components include:

  • Filter Tank: Houses the filter media (sand or filter balls).
  • 1.5 HP Pump: Circulates water through the filter system.
  • Multi-Port Valve: Controls the flow of water for different functions (Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Recirculate, Closed).
  • Pressure Gauge: Monitors the internal pressure of the filter, indicating when backwashing is needed.
  • Filter Basket: Located in the pump, it collects larger debris before water enters the pump impeller.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your VINGLI sand pool filter system:

  1. Placement: Position the filter system on a firm, level surface, as close to the pool as possible. Ensure it is protected from direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions.
  2. Assemble Base and Tank: Secure the filter tank to the pump base. The innovative snap-on design ensures stability.
  3. Add Filter Media:
    • Ensure the standpipe is centered in the tank.
    • Carefully pour the recommended amount of filter sand (approximately 330 lbs for the 24-inch model) or filter balls into the tank. Use a cup or similar tool to prevent sand from entering the standpipe.
    • Wipe any sand from the crevices before placing the multi-port valve.

  4. Install Multi-Port Valve: Carefully place the multi-port valve onto the top of the filter tank, ensuring it seats properly on the standpipe. Secure it with the provided clamp or bolts.
  5. Connect Pump to Filter: Connect the pump outlet to the "PUMP" port on the multi-port valve using the provided hose and clamps. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  6. Connect Pool Hoses:
    • Connect the pool's skimmer/main drain line to the "INLET" port of the pump.
    • Connect the pool's return line to the "RETURN" port on the multi-port valve.
    • Connect a backwash hose to the "WASTE" port on the multi-port valve, directing it to an appropriate drainage area.
  7. Install Pressure Gauge: Screw the pressure gauge into the designated port on the multi-port valve. Do not overtighten.
  8. Fill with Water: Before starting the pump, ensure the pool is filled to the appropriate level and all hoses are submerged or filled with water to prime the system.
  9. Electrical Connection: Plug the pump into a grounded 115V electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).

5. Operating Instructions

The multi-port valve offers 6 functions for comprehensive pool maintenance:

Multi-Port Valve Functions

Figure 4: Diagram illustrating the 6 functions of the multi-port valve: Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Recirculate, and Closed.

  • FILTER: (Normal operating position) Water is pumped through the filter media, and clean water is returned to the pool.
  • BACKWASH: (Cleaning filter) Reverses water flow through the filter to flush trapped debris out the waste port.
  • RINSE: (After backwash) Flushes remaining dirty water from the valve and lines to waste, settling the sand bed.
  • WASTE: (Bypasses filter) Drains water directly from the pool to waste, useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
  • RECIRCULATE: (Bypasses filter) Circulates water through the pump and multi-port valve, returning it to the pool without filtering. Useful for chemical distribution.
  • CLOSED: (Shuts off flow) Closes all flow to the filter and pump. Use for servicing the pump or filter. Never operate the pump with the valve in the CLOSED position.

To change valve positions: Always turn off the pump before changing the multi-port valve setting. This prevents damage to the valve and system.

Daily Operation: Run the filter system for an adequate period each day to ensure proper water circulation and filtration. The duration depends on pool size, usage, and environmental factors.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your VINGLI sand pool filter system.

6.1. Backwashing the Filter

Backwashing is necessary when the pressure gauge reading is 8-10 PSI above the clean filter starting pressure, or when water flow to the pool noticeably decreases. The normal operating pressure range is 0.8-1.2 bar (approximately 11.6-17.4 PSI).

Pressure Gauge for Sand Filter

Figure 6: The pressure gauge indicates the filter's internal pressure. A higher reading (e.g., above 1.5 bar) suggests backwashing is required.

  1. Turn off the pump.
  2. Set the multi-port valve to BACKWASH.
  3. Turn on the pump. Observe the waste water through the sight glass (if equipped) or the end of the backwash hose. Backwash until the water runs clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
  4. Turn off the pump.
  5. Set the multi-port valve to RINSE.
  6. Turn on the pump. Rinse for 30-60 seconds.
  7. Turn off the pump.
  8. Set the multi-port valve back to FILTER.
  9. Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.

6.2. Cleaning the Pump Filter Basket

The transparent filter basket lid allows for visual inspection. Clean the basket regularly to prevent debris buildup, which can reduce pump efficiency and flow.

Transparent Filter Basket Lid

Figure 7: Close-up of the transparent filter basket lid, allowing visual inspection of debris accumulation in the pump's pre-filter basket.

  1. Turn off the pump and close any necessary valves to prevent water flow.
  2. Unscrew the transparent lid of the pump's filter basket.
  3. Remove the basket and empty any collected debris.
  4. Rinse the basket thoroughly with water.
  5. Replace the basket and securely fasten the transparent lid. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated to prevent leaks.
  6. Open any closed valves and restart the pump.

6.3. Winterization

For regions with freezing temperatures, proper winterization is crucial to prevent damage:

  • Drain all water from the pump, filter tank, and associated plumbing.
  • Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the filter tank.
  • Remove the multi-port valve and store it in a dry, protected area.
  • Store the pump in a dry, heated location.
  • Cover the filter tank to protect it from elements.
