1. Important Safety Instructions

Always read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before operating this chainsaw. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

1.1 General Chainsaw Safety

• Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
• Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
• Personal Safety: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
• Tool Use and Care: Do not force the chainsaw. Use the correct chainsaw for your application. It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Maintenance: Maintain chainsaws and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the chainsaw’s operation.

1.2 Battery Safety (Battery Not Included)

This chainsaw is compatible with DeWALT 20V Max batteries. Use only the specified battery types. Improper use can lead to fire, explosion, or injury.

• Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
• Do not expose batteries to heat or fire.
• Do not short-circuit a battery.
• Store batteries away from metal objects.
• Dispose of batteries properly according to local regulations.

2. Product Overview

The DocSmart 8-inch Mini Cordless Chainsaw (Model CSD08) is a compact and powerful tool designed for efficient trimming of tree branches and wood cutting. It features a brushless motor, automatic oiling system, and a lightweight design for ease of use.

2.1 Components and Features

3. Setup and Assembly

3.1 Battery Installation

1. Ensure the chainsaw is turned off and the safety lock is engaged.
2. Align the DeWALT 20V Max battery (not included) with the battery slot at the base of the chainsaw handle.
3. Slide the battery firmly into place until it clicks, indicating it is securely locked.
4. To remove, press the battery release button (if present) and slide the battery out.

3.2 Chain and Guide Bar Installation/Tensioning

The chainsaw features a tool-less tensioning system for convenience.

1. Ensure the chainsaw is disconnected from any power source (battery removed).
2. Loosen the red knob on the side of the chainsaw.
3. Place the chain around the guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges are facing the correct direction (refer to markings on the chain and guide bar).
4. Fit the chain and guide bar assembly onto the chainsaw body, aligning the chain with the sprocket.
5. Turn the red knob to adjust chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. A properly tensioned chain will not sag on the underside of the guide bar.
6. Tighten the red knob firmly to secure the guide bar and chain.

3.3 Filling the Auto Oiler Reservoir

The chainsaw is equipped with an automatic chain lubrication system. Use only high-quality bar and chain oil.

1. Locate the oil reservoir cap on the chainsaw body.
2. Unscrew the cap and carefully pour bar and chain oil into the reservoir, up to the maximum fill line (approx. 30ml).
3. Replace the cap securely.
4. Before first use, or after refilling, press the bulb (if present) to prime the lubrication system and ensure oil reaches the chain.

4. Operation

Always ensure you are wearing appropriate PPE before operating the chainsaw.

4.1 Starting and Stopping the Chainsaw

1. Ensure the battery is installed and fully charged.
2. Press and hold the safety lock button (typically located near the trigger).
3. While holding the safety lock, press the trigger to start the chainsaw.
4. To stop the chainsaw, release the trigger. The safety lock will automatically reset.

4.2 Cutting Techniques

Always maintain a firm grip with both hands (if using the front handle) and ensure stable footing.

• Branch Trimming: For small branches, position the chainsaw firmly against the branch and allow the chain to do the work. Avoid forcing the saw.
• Wood Cutting: For larger pieces of wood, ensure the wood is stable. Make a shallow cut on the underside first to prevent pinching, then complete the cut from the top.
• Kickback Prevention: Be aware of the kickback danger zone (the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip). Avoid contact with this area.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your chainsaw.

5.1 Chain Lubrication

• The auto-oiler system provides continuous lubrication during operation.
• Regularly check the oil level in the reservoir and refill as needed.
• Ensure the oil reservoir is always filled before and during use to prevent chain and guide bar wear.

5.2 Chain Sharpening

A sharp chain is crucial for efficient and safe cutting. A sharpener is included with the product.

• Sharpen the chain regularly or when you notice reduced cutting performance or excessive sawdust instead of chips.
• Follow the instructions provided with the sharpener for correct sharpening angles and techniques.
• Ensure the chain is cool and clean before sharpening.

5.3 Cleaning and Storage

• After each use, remove the battery and clean the chainsaw thoroughly.
• Use the included cleaning brush to remove sawdust, debris, and oil residue from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing.
• Wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
• Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children and away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
