4. Operating the Camera
4.1 Key Features and Performance
The ASI585MC Pro integrates several advanced technologies to enhance imaging performance:
- STARVIS 2 Technology: Provides advanced imaging performance suitable for both deep-sky and solar/lunar/planetary photography due to its high frame rate.
- High Full Well Capacity: With a back-illuminated structure, the camera achieves a full well capacity of 47ke- even with unbinned 2.9µm pixels. This improves light collection efficiency, prevents overexposure in highlight areas, and enhances the signal-to-noise ratio.
- Zero Amp Glow: The camera exhibits extremely clean dark frames with zero amp glow, regardless of exposure length or gain value. This feature is implemented at the hardware level.
- HCG Mode: A built-in High Conversion Gain (HCG) mode automatically activates when the gain reaches 252. This reduces read noise at high gain while maintaining a high dynamic range, with read noise as low as 0.9e.
- High Quantum Efficiency (QE): The ASI585MC Pro boasts a peak QE value of 91%.

Figure 4.2: Quantum Efficiency (QE) curve of the ASI585MC Pro, showing its response across different wavelengths, with a peak QE of 91%.

Figure 4.3: Relative spectral response curve of the ASI585MC Pro, indicating its sensitivity to different colors of light.
4.2 Cooling System (TEC)
The two-stage TEC cooling system can lower the CMOS sensor temperature to more than 35°C below ambient temperature. This significantly reduces dark current generation and sensor noise, especially during extended exposures.

Figure 4.4: Dark current curve of the ASI585MC Pro, illustrating the reduction in dark current as the sensor temperature decreases from -20°C to 30°C.
