3. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the power supply and all accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components listed in the "What's in the Box" section are present and undamaged.
  2. Placement: Place the unit on a stable, flat surface with adequate ventilation. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for air circulation, especially around the rear cooling fan.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the provided power cord to the AC input on the rear of the power supply and then to a suitable AC power outlet. Ensure the power outlet matches the voltage requirements of the unit (typically 110V/220V, check product label).
  4. Output Cable Connection: Connect the provided output cables to the corresponding output terminals on the front panel. The red cable connects to the positive (+) terminal, and the black cable connects to the negative (-) terminal. The green terminal is for ground (GND).

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On and Initial Check

  1. Ensure no load is connected to the output terminals.
  2. Press the POWER button on the front panel to turn on the unit. The LED display will illuminate, showing the preset voltage, current, and power values.
  3. Verify that the display shows reasonable values (e.g., 0.000V, 0.000A, 0.000W) when no load is connected.

4.2 Adjusting Voltage and Current

The NICE-POWER R-SPS2005 uses high-precision encoder knobs for adjustment. This allows for fine-tuning of each digit.

Diagram showing how to use the encoder adjustment knob: press to switch digital position and rotate to adjust numbers from 0-9.

Figure 4.1: Encoder Adjustment Knob Operation.

  1. Voltage Adjustment:
    • Press the VOLTAGE knob to select the digit you wish to adjust (the selected digit will blink).
    • Rotate the VOLTAGE knob clockwise to increase the value or counter-clockwise to decrease it.
    • Repeat for each digit until the desired voltage is set.
  2. Current Adjustment:
    • Press the CURRENT knob to select the digit you wish to adjust.
    • Rotate the CURRENT knob clockwise to increase the value or counter-clockwise to decrease it.
    • Set the current limit slightly above the expected operating current of your load to allow for normal operation while providing overcurrent protection.

4.3 Connecting a Load and C.C/C.V Mode

  1. Before connecting your electronic device (load), ensure the power supply is OFF.
  2. Connect your load to the output terminals, ensuring correct polarity (+ to +, - to -).
  3. Turn on the power supply.
  4. Observe the C.C (Constant Current) and C.V (Constant Voltage) indicators:
    • If the load resistance is high, the unit will operate in Constant Voltage (C.V) mode, and the C.V indicator will light up. The output voltage will be maintained at the preset value.
    • If the load resistance is low, causing the current to reach or exceed the preset current limit, the unit will switch to Constant Current (C.C) mode, and the C.C indicator will light up. The output current will be maintained at the preset limit, and the output voltage will drop accordingly. This protects both the power supply and the connected load.

5. Maintenance

5.1 General Care

  • Keep the unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Avoid exposing the unit to excessive moisture, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures.
  • Ensure proper ventilation at all times. Do not block the air vents on the sides or rear of the unit.

5.2 Intelligent Cooling Fan

The power supply is equipped with an intelligent cooling fan designed to activate automatically when the internal temperature reaches approximately 50℃ (122℉). This mechanism ensures stable operation and protects the internal components from overheating during prolonged use or high-load conditions.

  • Regularly check the fan vents for dust accumulation. Use compressed air to gently clear any blockages.
  • Do not obstruct the fan or vents during operation.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power/Display off Power cord not connected; Power switch off; Power outlet issue. Ensure power cord is securely connected. Turn on the power switch. Test the power outlet with another device.
No output voltage/current Output terminals not connected correctly; Voltage/current set to zero; Overload protection activated. Check output cable connections and polarity. Adjust voltage/current knobs to desired values. Disconnect load, power cycle the unit, and re-evaluate load requirements.
Unit switches to C.C mode unexpectedly Load current exceeds preset limit; Short circuit in load. Increase the current limit setting if the load requires more current. Check the load for short circuits or excessive current draw.
Fan runs constantly or loudly High ambient temperature; Heavy load causing internal heat; Dust in fan. Ensure adequate ventilation. Reduce load if possible. Clean fan vents. This is normal operation if the unit is under heavy load.

If the problem persists after attempting the above solutions, please contact NICE-POWER customer support for assistance.
