Setup

Initial Winding

Your Timex Marlin Automatic watch is powered by a mechanical automatic movement. Before wearing for the first time, or if the watch has stopped, it requires an initial manual winding. To wind the watch, rotate the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times until you feel slight resistance. This will build up a power reserve to start the movement.

Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown out to its outermost position.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
  3. Once the time is set, push the crown back into its original position to engage the movement.

Adjusting the Strap

The watch comes with a black leather strap featuring a buckle closure. Adjust the strap by inserting the pin into the desired hole for a comfortable and secure fit on your wrist. Ensure the watch is not too tight or too loose to allow for proper automatic winding through wrist movement.

Operating Instructions

Automatic Movement

This watch is equipped with an automatic (self-winding) mechanical movement. It harnesses the natural motion of your wrist to wind the mainspring. When worn regularly (approximately 8-10 hours a day), the watch will maintain its power reserve and continue to run without manual winding. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop and require manual winding as described in the "Initial Winding" section.

Power Reserve

A fully wound automatic watch typically has a power reserve of 36-40 hours. If the watch is left unworn for longer than its power reserve, it will stop. Simply pick up the watch, manually wind it a few times, and set the time before wearing it again.

Maintenance

Cleaning Your Watch

To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth. For the leather strap, avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals. If the strap becomes wet, allow it to air dry naturally away from direct heat.

Water Resistance

This watch is water resistant to 50 meters (5 ATM). This means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not for diving or snorkeling. Avoid operating the crown or pushers when the watch is wet to prevent water intrusion. Prolonged exposure to water, especially hot water or steam, can compromise the water resistance seals.

Service

Mechanical watches benefit from periodic servicing to ensure accuracy and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch inspected by an authorized Timex service center every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as replacement of seals to maintain water resistance.

Troubleshooting

  • Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, manually wind it using the crown (20-30 clockwise turns) and gently shake it to restart the movement. Ensure it is worn regularly to maintain the power reserve.
  • Inaccurate Time: Mechanical watches can be affected by strong magnetic fields or significant impacts. If your watch is consistently running fast or slow, keep it away from magnetic sources (e.g., speakers, magnets) and consider having it regulated by a professional watchmaker.
  • Condensation Under Crystal: If you notice condensation inside the watch, this indicates a breach in the water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage to the movement.
