Setup
1. Initial Solar Charging
Your Timex Expedition Field Solar watch is powered by light. Upon receiving the watch, it may be in a low power state due to prolonged storage. To activate and fully charge the watch, expose the dial to a strong light source (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours. The watch will begin functioning once sufficient charge is accumulated. An erratic second hand movement (e.g., jumping every two seconds) indicates a low power reserve and the need for further charging.
2. Setting the Time
- Pull out the crown: Locate the crown on the right side of the watch case. Gently pull it out to the time-setting position.
- Rotate the crown: Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
- Push in the crown: Once the time is set, push the crown back into its normal operating position. Ensure it is fully seated to maintain water resistance.

Operating the Watch
Basic Timekeeping
Once charged and set, your watch will continuously display the current time. The solar movement ensures accurate timekeeping as long as it receives adequate light exposure.
Water Resistance
This watch is water resistant up to 50 meters (164 feet). This rating means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, showering, and fishing. It is not suitable for diving, snorkeling, or prolonged water activities. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.
Maintenance
Cleaning Your Watch
- Case and Crystal: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Strap: For the black strap, a mild soap and water solution can be used with a soft brush, then rinse thoroughly and dry.
Solar Cell Care
To ensure continuous operation and longevity of the solar cell, regularly expose the watch dial to light. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places. While the watch can store power, consistent light exposure is recommended for optimal performance.
Troubleshooting
- Watch is not running or second hand is jumping erratically: This indicates a low power reserve. Expose the watch to a strong light source for several hours to recharge the solar cell.
- Moisture or fogging under the crystal: This can occur if the watch's water resistance has been compromised, often due to the crown not being fully pushed in, or exposure to extreme temperature changes. If fogging persists after the watch has dried, it is recommended to contact Timex customer support for inspection.
