1. Product Overview

The Bonvoisin Digital Hot Wire Anemometer is a versatile, handheld instrument designed for precise measurement of wind speed, airflow, and temperature. This device is equipped with a hot wire sensor for accurate readings and a thermometer for ambient temperature. 2. Safety Information

  • Read all instructions carefully before operating the device.

Note: 4 AAA batteries are required for operation and are not included in the package.

4. Setup and Battery Installation

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit.
  2. Open the cover by sliding or unscrewing it.
  3. Insert 4 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Probe Connection

Connect the cable of the telescopic hot wire probe to the designated port on the main anemometer unit. Ensure the connection is firm to prevent intermittent readings.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the POWER button to turn the device on.
  • Press and hold the POWER button to turn the device off.
  • The device will automatically turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery power.

5.2 Basic Measurements (Wind Speed, Airflow, Temperature)

Upon powering on, the device will display real-time wind speed, airflow, and temperature readings. The hot wire probe should be positioned in the airflow path for accurate measurement.

5.3 Unit Selection

  • Press the UNIT button to cycle through wind speed units: m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots, mph.
  • Press the ℃/℉ button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit for temperature readings.
  • Press the CFM/CMM button to select between Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) and Cubic Meters per Minute (CMM) for airflow measurements.

5.4 Backlight Function

  • Press the LIGHT button to activate the display backlight.
  • The backlight will automatically turn off after 7 seconds of no operation to save battery life.

5.5 Data Hold

  • Press the HOLD button to freeze the current readings on the display.
  • Press HOLD again to release the data hold and resume real-time measurements.

5.6 Advanced Measurements (MAX/MIN/AVG/Windchill)

  • Press the MAX/MIN button to view the maximum or minimum recorded values during a measurement session.
  • The device also supports 2/3 Max and average wind speed/airflow measurements. Refer to the on-screen indicators for these modes.
  • Windchill measurements are automatically calculated and displayed when applicable.

5.7 Probe Usage

The anemometer features a telescopic rod that extends up to 1.08 meters (4.3 feet) and a flexible probe tip. This design allows for measurements in hard-to-reach areas, such as HVAC ducts or vents.

  • Gently extend the telescopic rod to the desired length.
  • The tip of the probe can be bent to direct the sensor into the airflow path. Exercise caution to avoid damaging the hot wire sensor.
  • Position the probe directly in the airflow for optimal accuracy.

5.8 Data Recording and Output

The device can record up to 350 sets of measurement data. This data can be transferred to a PC for further analysis.

  • Use the REC button to initiate or stop data recording.
  • Connect the anemometer to a PC (Windows 7, XP, 10 compatible) using the provided USB cable.
  • Specialized software is required to retrieve the recorded data and generate graphs. Please contact Bonvoisin customer support to obtain the necessary software.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device and probe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the anemometer in its protective carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure continuous accurate operation.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Check if batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
  • Inaccurate readings: Ensure the probe tip is clean and unobstructed. Verify that the probe is correctly positioned in the airflow. Check for stable environmental conditions.
  • Display is dim or blank: Activate the backlight. If the issue persists, replace batteries.
  • Cannot connect to PC or retrieve data: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected. Verify that the correct software is installed on your PC. Contact customer support for software assistance.
