Image 2.3.3: Remote Sensor Placement. This image demonstrates the versatility of the three remote sensors (CH1, CH2, CH3) by showing them monitoring conditions in different environments: a backyard deck, a baby's room, and a greenhouse. The main unit is also shown displaying data from these channels.

3. Setup

3.1 Powering the Main Unit

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit.
  2. Insert 2 x AA batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover. The unit will power on and begin searching for remote sensors and the WWVB atomic clock signal.

3.2 Powering the Remote Sensors

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of each remote sensor.
  2. Insert 2 x AA batteries (not included) into each sensor, observing the correct polarity.
  3. Select a channel (1, 2, or 3) for each sensor using the switch inside the battery compartment. Ensure each sensor is set to a unique channel.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover. The sensors will immediately begin transmitting data.

3.3 Sensor Placement

  • Place remote sensors in desired outdoor or indoor locations within 200 feet (60 meters) of the main unit.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and rain for outdoor sensors to ensure accurate readings and prolong battery life.
  • Minimize obstructions like thick walls, metal objects, or large electrical appliances between the sensors and the main unit to optimize signal transmission.
Customizable labels for weather station sensors
Image 3.3.1: Customizing Sensor Labels. This image shows the main unit displaying temperature and humidity data for "INDOOR", "GARAGE", "BABY", and "KITCHEN", indicating that users can customize labels for each sensor channel to clearly identify monitoring areas.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Initial Synchronization and Time Setting

Upon initial power-up, the main unit will automatically attempt to synchronize with the WWVB atomic clock signal. This process may take several minutes to a few hours depending on your location and signal strength. Manual time setting is also available.

Automatic and manual time calibration function
Image 4.1.1: Time Calibration. This image illustrates both manual and automatic time calibration options for the weather station. The main unit can automatically set the time via radio signal or be adjusted manually.

4.2 Display Information

The color display provides a comprehensive overview of current conditions:

  • Time and Date: Displays current time (12/24 hour format), day of the week, and calendar.
  • Indoor Temperature & Humidity: Readings from the main unit's internal sensors.
  • Outdoor Temperature & Humidity: Readings from the connected remote sensors (Channels 1, 2, 3).
  • Weather Forecast: Icons indicating predicted weather conditions (sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc.).
  • Barometric Pressure: Current atmospheric pressure and trend.
  • Comfort Level Indicator: A visual icon indicating indoor comfort based on temperature and humidity.

4.3 Alarm Settings

The weather station features a dual alarm function:

  1. Press the "ALARM" button to enter alarm setting mode.
  2. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to adjust the hour and minute.
  3. Press "ALARM" again to confirm and set the second alarm, if desired.
  4. The snooze function will activate automatically when an alarm sounds.

4.4 Temperature Unit Selection

To switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉), locate the ℃/℉ button, usually on the back or side of the main unit, and press it.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the main unit and sensors with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries in the main unit and remote sensors when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Ensure all batteries are replaced simultaneously for optimal performance.
  • Storage: If storing the device for an extended period, remove all batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Environmental Protection: Protect outdoor sensors from extreme weather conditions, direct prolonged sunlight, and heavy precipitation.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No display on main unit.Batteries are dead or inserted incorrectly.Check battery polarity and replace with fresh AA batteries.
Remote sensor data not displayed.
  • Sensor batteries are dead.
  • Sensor is out of range.
  • Interference from other devices.
  • Incorrect channel selected.
  • Replace sensor batteries.
  • Move sensor closer to the main unit.
  • Relocate sensor or main unit away from potential interference sources.
  • Ensure sensor channel matches the main unit's setting for that channel.
Time not synchronizing (Atomic Clock).
  • Weak WWVB signal.
  • Interference.
  • Incorrect time zone setting (if applicable).
  • Place the main unit near a window, facing Colorado (where the WWVB transmitter is located).
  • Avoid placing near electronic devices that emit strong signals.
  • Manually set the time if automatic synchronization fails consistently.
Inaccurate temperature/humidity readings.
  • Sensor exposed to direct sunlight or heat source.
  • Sensor placed in a high humidity environment without proper ventilation.
  • Relocate sensor to a shaded, well-ventilated area.
  • Ensure sensors are not directly exposed to elements that can skew readings.
