5. Setup and Assembly

The Scheppach MS180-51 lawnmower requires minimal assembly before first use. Follow these steps:

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Check for any damage during transit.
2. Handle Assembly: Attach the upper handle to the lower handle, and then secure the entire handle assembly to the main mower body. Ensure all bolts and knobs are tightened securely. The folding handle design allows for easy setup and compact storage.

6. Operation

6.1 Starting the Engine

1. Ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is correct.
2. Move the throttle lever to the 'START' or 'CHOKE' position (if applicable).
3. Firmly grasp the engine brake lever (bail bar) against the handle.
4. Pull the starter cord with a smooth, continuous motion until the engine starts. Do not let the cord snap back.
5. Once the engine starts, gradually move the throttle lever to the 'RUN' position.

6.2 Adjusting Cutting Height

The cutting height can be centrally adjusted to 7 different levels, ranging from 25 mm to 70 mm. Locate the height adjustment lever on the mower deck and move it to the desired position. Adjusting the height ensures optimal cutting for different grass types and conditions.

6.3 Using Self-Propulsion

• Catching: For a clean finish and to remove clippings, ensure the 65L collection box is properly attached.
• Mulching: To return fine clippings to the lawn as natural fertilizer, install the mulching plug (if provided) and remove the collection box.
• Side Discharge: For areas where catching or mulching is not desired, attach the side discharge chute.

To stop the engine, release the engine brake lever (bail bar). The engine will shut off automatically.

• Remove the spark plug and add a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder, then slowly pull the starter cord a few times to distribute the oil. Reinstall the spark plug.
• Fold the handle for compact storage in a dry, protected area.
