4.2. Vibra-TITE VC-3 Threadmate

Vibra-TITE VC-3 Threadmate is a locking and sealing coating for threaded fasteners. It prevents fasteners from loosening due to vibration and shock by creating friction through viscosity. It is designed for use on various materials and finishes, dries quickly, and allows for adjustment, removal, and reuse of coated parts.

  • Prevents Loosening: Effective against shock and vibration.
  • Adjustable & Reusable: Coated parts can be adjusted, removed, and reused with standard tools.
  • Fast Drying: Dries to the touch within seconds, ready for assembly in minutes.
  • Versatile: Adheres to ferrous and non-ferrous metals, most platings, wood, and plastic screws.

5. Setup

5.1. Digital Torque Screwdriver

  1. Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment, insert the two AAA batteries provided, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  2. Attaching Bits: Insert the desired 1/4" bit into the screwdriver's quick-release chuck. Ensure it is fully seated and locked into place. For extended reach, attach the 60mm extended rod first, then the bit.

5.2. Vibra-TITE VC-3 Threadmate

  1. Preparation: For optimal performance, wipe off any visible oil, grease, or dirt from the fastener threads. Pre-cleaning with solvents is generally not required.
  2. Application: Shake the tube well before use. Apply a thin, even coating of VC-3 Threadmate to the threads of the fastener.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Digital Torque Screwdriver Operation

  1. Power On/Off: Press the power button to turn the screwdriver on. It will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery.
  2. Unit Selection: Use the unit button to cycle through available torque units (e.g., in-lbs, N.m, ft-lb, kg-cm).
  3. Setting Torque Value: In setting mode, use the up/down arrows to adjust the target torque value. The display will indicate the set value.
  4. Preset Modes (P1-P8): Access preset functions to quickly recall stored torque values. Refer to the on-screen prompts for saving and recalling presets. The device can store up to 500 sets of values.
  5. Real-Time (Track) Mode: In this mode, the display shows the current torque being applied. This is suitable for monitoring torque during tightening.
  6. Peak Mode: In this mode, the display captures and holds the maximum torque value applied during the operation. This is useful for verifying peak torque.
  7. Applying Torque: Apply steady pressure and rotate the screwdriver. The digital display will show the torque value. An audible and/or visual indicator will signal when the target torque is reached.
  8. Quick Release: To change bits, pull back the quick-release collar, remove the current bit, and insert a new one. Release the collar to lock the new bit in place.

6.2. Vibra-TITE VC-3 Threadmate Application

  1. Apply Coating: After preparing the fastener, apply VC-3 Threadmate to the threads. Ensure 30-50% of the thread root area is covered for optimal performance.
  2. Drying Time: Allow the coating to dry to the touch within seconds. For full cure and assembly, allow 10-30 minutes, depending on ambient conditions and coating thickness. Consider using considerable airflow and temperatures not exceeding 130°F for bulk production drying.
  3. Assembly: Once dry, assemble the coated fastener. The material will cold flow, providing a slow, fluid release rather than a distinct breakaway torque.
  4. Reusability: Fasteners coated with VC-3 can be adjusted, removed, and reused 5 or more times using standard hand tools. Reapply if necessary after multiple reuses.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the digital torque screwdriver with a clean, dry cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the screwdriver in its protective case in a dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Store Vibra-TITE VC-3 Threadmate in a cool, dry place.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace AAA batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
  • Calibration: For professional applications requiring certified accuracy, periodic calibration of the torque screwdriver by a qualified service center is recommended.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Screwdriver not powering on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate torque readings: Ensure the correct unit is selected. Verify the bit is properly seated. If issues persist, consider professional calibration.
  • Threadmate not holding: Ensure threads were clean before application. Allow sufficient drying time before assembly. Apply a sufficient amount of threadmate (30-50% thread root area).
  • Display issues: If the display is dim or flickering, replace the batteries.
