1. Introduction
The MASKO® 3-in-1 Gasoline Lawn Mower is designed for efficient lawn care, offering mowing, collecting, and mulching functionalities. This manual provides essential information for safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your lawn mower. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the machine.
2. Safety Information
Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or death.
- Read the Manual: Familiarize yourself with all controls and proper use of the equipment before starting.
- Wear Protective Gear: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy footwear, and long pants.
- Keep Bystanders Away: Ensure children, pets, and other people are kept at a safe distance (at least 15 meters) from the working area.
- Fuel Handling Safety: Handle gasoline with extreme care. It is highly flammable. Refuel outdoors only, with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke while refueling.
- Engine Off Before Maintenance: Always turn off the engine, disconnect the spark plug, and allow the machine to cool before performing any adjustments, cleaning, or maintenance.
- Inspect Work Area: Before mowing, clear the area of objects such as rocks, toys, wires, or other debris that could be thrown by the blade.
- Slope Operation: Exercise extreme caution when operating on slopes. Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down. Do not mow excessively steep slopes.

4. Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to assemble and prepare your lawn mower for its first use.
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Check for any damage or missing parts.
- Handlebar Assembly: Unfold the handlebar and secure it in the operating position using the provided knobs or levers. Ensure it is firmly locked.
- Grass Collector Assembly: Assemble the grass collector according to the instructions provided with the collector itself. Attach the assembled grass collector to the rear of the lawn mower.
- Add Engine Oil: Before starting the engine, fill the engine with the recommended type and amount of engine oil. Refer to the engine manual for specific oil requirements and capacity. Use the oil level indicator (dipstick) to ensure the correct level.
- Add Fuel: Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill. Always refuel in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames or sparks.
5. Operating Instructions
Proper operation ensures efficient mowing and extends the life of your machine.
5.1. Starting the Engine
- Ensure the spark plug wire is securely connected.
- Press the cold start button (primer bulb) several times as indicated in the engine manual, especially for a cold engine.
- Engage the engine brake lever (usually located on the handlebar).
- Pull the starter cord with a brisk, continuous motion until the engine starts.
5.2. Adjusting Cutting Height
The cutting height can be adjusted centrally to 7 different levels, ranging from 25 mm to 75 mm.
- Turn off the engine and wait for the blade to stop completely.
- Locate the central height adjustment lever, typically near one of the rear wheels.
- Pull the lever outwards and move it to the desired height setting. Ensure it locks securely into place.
5.3. Mowing Techniques
- For best results, mow when the grass is dry.
- Do not remove more than one-third of the grass height in a single pass.
- Overlap cutting paths slightly to ensure an even cut.
- Utilize the 3-in-1 function: choose between collecting clippings in the 50L grass bag, discharging them from the rear, or mulching them back into the lawn.

Figure 5.1: Rear Discharge, Collection, and Mulching
This diagram illustrates the three primary functions of the lawn mower. It shows how clippings can be discharged from the rear, collected in the grass bag (with a fill level indicator), or mulched to handle small branches and twigs effortlessly.
5.4. Emptying the Grass Collector
The 50-liter grass collector features a fill level indicator. Empty the bag when the indicator shows it is full to maintain optimal collection performance.
- Turn off the engine and wait for the blade to stop.
- Lift the rear discharge flap and remove the grass collector.
- Empty the clippings into a suitable container.
- Reattach the grass collector securely before resuming operation.
5.5. Cleaning After Use
For quick and easy cleaning of the cutting deck, the mower is equipped with a water hose connection.
- After use, turn off the engine and ensure the blade has stopped.
- Connect a garden hose to the water connection point on the cutting deck.
- Turn on the water supply and briefly start the engine to allow the rotating blade to clean the underside of the deck.
- Turn off the engine and water supply, then disconnect the hose.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your lawn mower.
- Engine Oil: Check the engine oil level before each use. Change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 25 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
- Air Filter: Clean the air filter regularly, especially in dusty conditions. Replace if damaged.
- Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug annually or every 50 hours. Clean or replace as necessary.
- Blade Care: Inspect the cutting blade regularly for sharpness and damage. A dull or unbalanced blade can cause uneven cuts and excessive vibration. Sharpen or replace the blade as needed. Always wear heavy-duty gloves when handling the blade.
- Cleaning: Keep the mower clean, especially the engine cooling fins and the underside of the cutting deck.
- Storage: For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Clean the mower thoroughly and store it in a dry, well-ventilated area. The foldable handle allows for compact storage.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your lawn mower.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | No fuel, old fuel, spark plug issue, engine brake not engaged | Check fuel level, use fresh fuel, inspect/clean/replace spark plug, engage engine brake lever |
| Uneven cut | Dull or bent blade, incorrect cutting height setting, uneven terrain | Sharpen or replace blade, adjust cutting height, mow on level ground |
| Excessive vibration | Bent or unbalanced blade, loose components | Inspect and replace blade if bent, tighten all fasteners, consult service if issue persists |
| Poor grass collection | Grass bag full, discharge chute clogged, wet grass, cutting height too low | Empty grass bag, clear chute, mow when grass is dry, raise cutting height |
