4. Setup
4.1 Fuel and Oil Mixture
The ECHO CS-3510ES is a 2-stroke engine and requires a specific fuel mixture. Use high-quality unleaded gasoline mixed with a premium 2-stroke engine oil at a ratio specified by ECHO (typically 50:1 or 25:1, refer to the fuel cap or a dedicated sticker on the unit for exact ratio). Always use fresh fuel mixture.
4.2 Chain Oil
Fill the chain oil tank with high-quality bar and chain oil. This oil lubricates the chain and guide bar during operation. Do not use waste oil or motor oil.
4.3 Guide Bar and Chain Installation
- Ensure the engine is off and the spark plug cap is disconnected.
- Remove the chain cover nuts and the chain cover.
- Place the chain around the clutch drum and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges face the correct direction.
- Fit the guide bar onto the studs and align the chain with the groove in the guide bar.
- Replace the chain cover and loosely tighten the nuts.
- Adjust chain tension using the tensioning screw. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand.
- Tighten the chain cover nuts securely.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Starting the Chainsaw (ES-Start System)

Figure 5.1: Demonstrating the starting procedure for the ECHO CS-3510ES chainsaw.
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward.
- For a cold engine, pull the choke lever out fully. For a warm engine, the choke may not be necessary.
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Hold the chainsaw firmly with one hand on the front handle and place your foot on the rear handle.
- Pull the starter rope with a smooth, steady motion until the engine fires (usually a few pulls).
- Once the engine fires, push the choke lever in halfway (if applicable) or fully in.
- Pull the starter rope again until the engine starts and runs.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments, then disengage the chain brake by pulling the front hand guard back.

- Inspect Chain Sharpness: Sharpen the chain if it's dull or damaged.
- Check Chain Lubrication: Ensure the chain oil tank is filled and the chain is receiving adequate lubrication during operation.
- Clean Guide Bar Groove: Remove sawdust and debris from the guide bar groove.
6.2 Periodic Maintenance
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug. Replace if necessary.
- Fuel Filter: Check and clean or replace the fuel filter.
- Cooling Fins: Clean the engine's cooling fins to prevent overheating.
- Sprocket: Inspect the drive sprocket for wear.
7. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | No fuel, incorrect choke position, fouled spark plug, clogged fuel filter | Check fuel level and mixture, adjust choke, clean/replace spark plug, clean/replace fuel filter |
| Engine runs, but chain does not move | Chain brake engaged, chain tension too tight, clutch issue | Disengage chain brake, adjust chain tension, consult service center for clutch issues |
| Poor cutting performance | Dull chain, incorrect chain tension, insufficient chain lubrication | Sharpen chain, adjust chain tension, check chain oil level and lubrication system |
| Engine overheats | Clogged cooling fins, incorrect fuel mixture, prolonged heavy use | Clean cooling fins, ensure correct fuel mixture, allow engine to cool down |
