Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your BILT HARD Dethatcher Scarifier before first use.

Assembly Video Guide:

1. Attach Lower Handle: Secure the lower handle to the machine body using the provided quick knobs and bolts.
2. Connect Middle Handle: Slip the extension cord holder into the middle handle, then attach the middle handle to the lower handle with quick knobs and bolts.
3. Install Upper Handle: Attach the upper handle to the middle handle using quick knobs and bolts. Ensure the safety button is on the right side.
4. Secure Cable: Use the cable clips to secure the power cable along the handle.
5. Attach Thatch Bag: Open the thatch cover and attach the bag bracket onto the hook.

Operating Instructions

Proper operation ensures effective lawn care and extends the life of your dethatcher scarifier.

Before Operation:

• Mow your lawn to a normal height before using the dethatcher.
• Ensure the lawn is dry.
• Connect the machine to a suitable extension cord, securing it with the cord retainer to prevent accidental disconnection.

Depth Adjustment:

The machine features a 5-position depth adjustment lever. Select the appropriate depth for your lawn's condition. Start with a higher setting and adjust lower if more aggressive dethatching or scarifying is needed.

Dethatching and Scarifying:

The dethatching roller uses spring steel tines to gently lift and remove thatch, while the scarifying roller with 16 blades provides more aggressive aeration by cutting into the soil.

Thatch Collection:

The 14.5-gallon thatch bag efficiently collects removed debris. Empty the bag frequently to maintain optimal performance and prevent clogging.

Blade Replacement:

The dethatcher comes with two interchangeable rollers: a dethatching roller and a scarifying roller. To replace the blade:

1. Unplug the machine from the power source.
2. Turn the machine upside down to access the blade assembly.
3. Remove the screws securing the blade support using the provided hex wrench.
4. Carefully remove the current blade roller.
5. Install the desired blade roller (dethatcher or scarifier) and secure it with the screws.

Cleaning and Storage:

• After each use, clean any grass clippings and debris from the machine, especially around the blade area and wheels.
• Store the dethatcher in a dry, covered area, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
• The handle can be folded for compact storage.
