Fotopro X-go Max E2 Carbon Fiber Tripod

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Fotopro X-go Max E2 Carbon Fiber Tripod. This lightweight and sturdy tripod is designed for outdoor photographers, offering versatility and stability for various shooting conditions. It features a detachable monopod, adjustable leg angles, and a 360-degree rotating ball head. This manual provides detailed instructions for proper setup, operation, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your equipment.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure all locks (leg locks, ball head locks) are securely tightened before mounting your camera or leaving the tripod unattended.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 12 kg (26.45 lbs) for the ball head or 20 kg (44 lbs) for the tripod without the ball head. Overloading can cause instability and damage to your equipment.
  • Be cautious when adjusting leg sections, especially in windy conditions or on uneven terrain, to prevent the tripod from tipping.
  • Keep hands and fingers clear of moving parts during setup and adjustment to avoid pinching.
  • Avoid exposing the tripod to extreme temperatures or corrosive substances.
  • When carrying the tripod, ensure it is folded and secured to prevent accidental unfolding or damage.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your package:

  • Fotopro X-go Max E2 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Ball Head
  • Quick Release Plate
  • Carry Bag

4. Setup

4.1 Unfolding the Tripod

  1. Grasp the tripod legs and rotate them outwards until they are fully extended.
  2. Adjust the leg angles by pulling out the angle adjustment tabs located at the top of each leg. There are three angle positions available.
  3. Extend the leg sections by twisting the leg locks counter-clockwise to loosen, pull out the desired section, and then twist clockwise to tighten securely. Repeat for all leg sections.

4.2 Attaching Your Camera

  1. Ensure the quick release plate is detached from the ball head. If not, loosen the quick release plate lock knob and slide the plate out.
  2. Attach the quick release plate to the bottom of your camera by screwing the 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch screw into the camera's tripod socket. Ensure it is tightened securely.
  3. Align the quick release plate with the clamp on the ball head and slide it in. Tighten the quick release plate lock knob until the camera is firmly secured.

4.3 Adjusting Height and Stability

  • Leg Sections: Extend the leg sections using the twist locks to achieve the desired height. For maximum stability, extend the thickest leg sections first.
  • Center Column: For additional height, loosen the center column lock knob and extend the center column. Tighten the knob once the desired height is reached.
  • Inverted Center Column: For low-angle or macro photography, the center column can be inverted. Unscrew the hook at the bottom of the center column, pull the center column completely out, flip it, and reinsert it from the bottom. Secure the lock knob.
  • Counterweight Hook: If using heavy equipment or in windy conditions, hang your camera bag or other weights on the detachable counterweight hook located at the bottom of the center column to enhance stability.

4.4 Converting to Monopod

  1. Identify the leg with the foam grip. This leg is designed to detach.
  2. Unscrew this leg from the tripod body by twisting it counter-clockwise.
  3. Unscrew the ball head from the center column.
  4. Screw the ball head onto the top of the detached leg.
  5. The monopod is now ready for use. It can also be used as a hiking stick or selfie pole.

5. Operation

5.1 Using the Ball Head

The Fotopro X-go Max E2 features a 36mm ball head for flexible camera positioning.

  • Main Lock Knob: Loosen this large knob to allow the camera to tilt and swivel freely. Tighten it to lock the camera in position.
  • Panoramic Base Lock: A smaller knob located at the base of the ball head controls the 360-degree rotation. Loosen it to rotate the camera horizontally for panoramic shots, then tighten to secure.
  • Friction Control: Some ball heads include a friction control knob (often integrated with the main lock knob) to adjust the resistance of the ball movement. Adjust this to prevent your camera from flopping when the main lock is loosened.

5.2 Achieving Different Shooting Angles

  • Standard Shooting: Use the tripod with legs fully extended and the center column at a comfortable height.
  • Low-Angle Shooting: Spread the tripod legs to their widest angle (third position) and/or invert the center column for shots close to the ground.
  • Monopod Use: For situations requiring mobility or where a full tripod is impractical, use the detached monopod for quick support.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After use, especially in dusty, sandy, or wet environments, wipe down the tripod with a clean, damp cloth. For carbon fiber legs, avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Drying: Ensure the tripod is completely dry before folding and storing to prevent corrosion or mildew.
  • Lubrication: Periodically check leg locks and ball head mechanisms. If movement becomes stiff, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to moving parts, avoiding contact with the carbon fiber itself.
  • Storage: Store the tripod in its carry bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Tripod is unstable: Ensure all leg locks are fully tightened. Check that leg angles are evenly set. If using heavy equipment, utilize the counterweight hook. Ensure the quick release plate is securely attached to both the camera and the ball head.
  • Leg sections are stiff or difficult to extend/retract: Clean the leg sections thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant if necessary.
  • Ball head movement is not smooth: Check for any debris in the ball head mechanism. Ensure the main lock knob is not overtightened when attempting to adjust.
  • Camera wobbles on ball head: Ensure the quick release plate is tightly screwed to the camera and securely clamped into the ball head. Check that the ball head's main lock knob is fully tightened.
