4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Insert the PWR CORE 20 2.0Ah battery into the PWR CORE 20 20V Standard Charger.
  2. Plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet.
  3. The indicator lights on the battery will show the charging status. A fully charged battery will typically display a solid green light.
  4. Once fully charged, disconnect the charger from the outlet and remove the battery.

4.2 Attaching/Changing Blades

The SKIL PWR CORE 20 2-in-1 Shear & Shrub tool features a tool-free blade change system, allowing for quick transitions between the grass shear and shrub shear blades.

  1. Ensure the battery is removed from the tool before changing blades.
  2. To remove a blade, locate the release tabs on the side of the blade attachment. Press these tabs and slide the blade assembly off the tool.
  3. Select the desired blade (5-inch grass shear or 8-inch shrub shear).
  4. Align the new blade assembly with the tool's housing and slide it into place until it clicks securely. Ensure both sides are fully engaged.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 General Operation

  1. Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely inserted into the tool.
  2. To start the tool, press the safety button (usually located on the side or top of the handle) and then squeeze the trigger. Release the safety button once the tool is running.

The 5-inch grass shear blade is ideal for precise trimming of grass around flowerbeds, walkways, and other areas where a lawnmower cannot reach, or for shaping decorative grasses.

  • Attach the 5-inch grass shear blade as described in Section 4.2.
  • Hold the tool with the blade parallel to the ground or at a slight angle, depending on the desired cut.
  • Move the tool slowly and steadily along the edge of the grass, allowing the blades to cut cleanly.
  • Avoid forcing the tool through thick patches of grass; make multiple passes if necessary.

5.3 Using the Shrub Shear Blade

The 8-inch shrub shear blade is suitable for shaping small hedges, pruning shrubs, and cutting back perennials with stems up to 5/16-inch in diameter.

  • Attach the 8-inch shrub shear blade as described in Section 4.2.
  • Hold the tool firmly and guide the blades along the desired cutting line.
  • For best results, use a sweeping motion, cutting small amounts of material at a time.
  • Do not attempt to cut branches thicker than 5/16-inch to prevent damage to the tool and blades.
