  8. Flush the System: Dispense about 2.5 gallons (10 liters) of water through the dispenser to flush the system and remove any air or carbon fines. This usually takes about 5 minutes.
  9. Reset Filter Indicator: Refer to Section 5.2 for instructions on resetting your refrigerator's filter indicator light.

4. Operation

Once installed, the Waterdrop WD-F19C filter operates automatically as water flows through your refrigerator's dispenser or ice maker. The filter's multi-stage filtration process works to reduce various impurities:

  • Advanced Filtration: The filter utilizes a Sri Lankan coconut shell carbon block, which has a larger surface area and more micropores than traditional charcoal filters.
  • Impurity Reduction: It is designed to efficiently reduce chlorine, taste, odor, large particles, suspended solids, sediment, and other impurities.
  • PFOA & PFOS Reduction: The filter also targets the reduction of PFOA and PFOS compounds.
  • Beneficial Minerals: While filtering out unwanted substances, the filter is designed to retain beneficial minerals in your water.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Filter Replacement Schedule

For optimal performance and water quality, it is recommended to replace your Waterdrop WD-F19C filter every 6 months or after filtering 300 gallons (1137 liters), whichever comes first. The filter comes with complimentary month install stickers to help you track its service life.

5.2 Resetting the Filter Indicator Light

After replacing the filter, you must reset the filter indicator light on your refrigerator. The exact method may vary slightly by refrigerator model, but a common procedure for compatible GE models is:

  • Locate the "Water" button on your refrigerator's dispenser panel.
  • Press and hold the "Water" button for 3 seconds.
  • You should hear a tone confirming that the dispenser has been reset, and the "Replace Water Filter" light will turn off.

If this method does not work, consult your refrigerator's owner's manual for specific instructions on resetting the filter indicator.

6. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:

  • Issue: Water dispenser not working or slow water flow after filter replacement.
Solution: Ensure the filter is fully inserted and locked into place. Flush the system by dispensing at least 2.5 gallons of water to remove trapped air.
  • Issue: "Replace Water Filter" light remains on after replacement.
Solution: Follow the instructions in Section 5.2 to manually reset the filter indicator light. If it still doesn't reset, consult your refrigerator's manual.
  • Issue: Water tastes unusual after filter replacement.
Solution: This can happen with new carbon filters. Flush the system thoroughly by dispensing several gallons of water. The taste should normalize after flushing.
  • Issue: Water leakage from the filter area.
Solution: Remove the filter and re-insert it, ensuring it is properly aligned and fully locked. Check the O-rings on the filter for any damage. If leakage persists, contact customer support.
