This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your GC-01 detector.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety instructions before operating the device. Improper use may lead to inaccurate readings or personal injury.

2.1 General Precautions

  • Do not attempt to open or modify the device.
  • Keep the device away from extreme temperatures, moisture, and strong magnetic fields.
  • Use only the specified charging cable and power source.
  • This device is for informational purposes and should not be used as the sole basis for critical safety decisions without professional consultation.

2.2 Understanding Radiation Dose Hazards

It is important to understand the potential effects of different radiation doses on the human body. The following table provides a general overview:

Table showing nuclear radiation dose hazards and human body response

Figure 2.1: Nuclear Radiation Dose Hazards and Human Body Response. This table illustrates the potential health effects associated with various levels of radiation exposure, from delayed reactions at low doses to acute death at very high doses.

Radiation Dose (Rum) and Response
Dose (Rum)Response
5-20Possible delayed reaction; potential chromosome damage.
20-100Temporary Leukopenia (reduction in white blood cells).
100-200Mild radiation sickness within hours: vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, reduced resistance to infection.
200-300Severe radiation sickness reaction; symptoms similar to above. This exposure is a lethal dose; 10-30% of those who die will have an LD(10-35)/30.
300-400Severe radiation sickness; damage to bones and gut. LD(50-70)/30.
400-1KAcute, premature death. LD(60-95)/30.
1K-5KAcute death within days. LD 100/10.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge the device. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the detector's charging port and the USB-A end to a 5V power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port. The charging indicator on the screen will show the charging status.

5.2 Powering On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually the 'OK' button) until the screen illuminates.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the power button until the device shuts down.

5.3 Initial Settings

Upon first power-on or after a reset, you may need to set the language and real-time clock.

  • Language Selection: Navigate through the menu using the arrow buttons and select 'English' for the interface language.
  • Time Setting: Access the system settings to adjust the real-time clock to your local time.

6. Operation

6.1 Basic Measurement

Once powered on, the device will automatically begin measuring radiation levels. The main display shows the current dose rate in microSieverts per hour (uSv/h).

6.2 Understanding the Display

The high-definition LCD provides comprehensive information:

  • Current Dose Rate: Displays the real-time radiation intensity (e.g., 000.00 uSv/h).
  • Cumulative Dose: Shows the total accumulated radiation dose over time (e.g., 00.00 mSv).
  • Average Dose Rate: The average radiation intensity over a measurement period.
  • Maximum Dose Rate: The highest radiation intensity recorded during the current session.
  • Real-time Clock: Displays the current date and time.

6.3 Setting Alarm Values

The device allows you to set custom alarm thresholds for both current dose rate and cumulative dose. An alarm will activate if the measured values exceed these presets.

Figure 6.1: The Fnirsi GC-01 interface for setting alarm values. Users can configure thresholds for current alarm (dose rate) and cumulative alarm, with three distinct alarm modes (sound, glitter, vibrate) available.

  • Navigate to the 'Set Alarm' option in the menu.
  • Use the arrow buttons to adjust the desired dose rate alarm threshold (e.g., Current Alarm 001.00 uSv/h).
  • Adjust the cumulative dose alarm threshold (e.g., Cumulative Alarm 020.00 mSv).
  • Confirm your settings.

6.4 Alarm Modes

You can choose from three distinct alarm modes:

  • Sound: An audible alert.
  • Vibration: The device vibrates.
  • Light: A visual indicator (e.g., flashing screen or LED).

These modes can be combined or used individually based on user preference and environment.

6.5 Data Saving

The device automatically saves measurement data during shutdown, ensuring that cumulative dose information and settings are retained.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing or screen.

7.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% and recharge every few months.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Fnirsi GC-01, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Device does not power on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to a power source and try again.
  • Inaccurate readings: Ensure the device is not near strong electromagnetic interference. Calibrate if necessary (refer to advanced settings, if available, or contact support).
  • Screen is blank or frozen: Try a soft reset by holding the power button for an extended period (e.g., 10-15 seconds) until it restarts.
  • Alarm not sounding/vibrating: Check alarm settings to ensure the desired mode is enabled and volume/intensity is set appropriately.

For persistent issues, please contact customer support.
