Setup

1. Mounting the Radio

Use the provided mounting bracket and hardware to securely install the radio in your desired location. Ensure it is stable and has adequate ventilation.

2. Power Connection

Connect the red wire of the power cord to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's 12V DC power source (e.g., battery or fuse box). Connect the black wire to the negative (-) terminal or a good chassis ground. Ensure a secure connection to prevent power fluctuations.

3. Antenna Connection

Connect a properly tuned CB antenna (not included) to the antenna connector on the rear of the radio. A well-tuned antenna is crucial for optimal performance and to prevent damage to the radio's transmitter. Refer to your antenna's manual for tuning instructions.

4. Microphone Connection

Plug the microphone cable into the 4-pin microphone jack located on the front panel of the radio. Ensure the connector is fully inserted and secured.

5. External Speaker/PA Connection (Optional)

If using an external speaker or PA horn (not included), connect it to the respective jacks on the rear of the radio. Refer to the rear panel diagram for exact locations.

Operating Instructions

1. Turning On/Off and Volume

Rotate the VOL-SQ knob clockwise to turn the radio ON. Continue rotating to adjust the listening volume to a comfortable level.

2. Squelch Control

With the radio on, rotate the inner SQ (Squelch) ring clockwise until the background static noise disappears. This sets the squelch threshold, allowing only strong signals to be heard.

3. Channel Selection

Use the Channel Selector knob to choose your desired operating channel (1-40). The selected channel number will be displayed.

4. RF Gain

The RF GAIN knob adjusts the sensitivity of the receiver. Rotate clockwise for maximum sensitivity (for distant signals) and counter-clockwise to reduce sensitivity (for strong local signals or to reduce noise).

5. SWR Calibration (Standing Wave Ratio)

Proper SWR calibration is essential for efficient operation and to protect your radio. Perform this procedure after initial antenna installation or if you suspect antenna issues.

  1. Select Channel 20.
  2. Set the SWR CAL knob to the CAL position.
  3. Press and hold the microphone's PTT (Push-To-Talk) button.
  4. While holding PTT, adjust the SWR CAL knob until the meter needle points to the "SET" or "CAL" mark on the SWR scale.
  5. Release the PTT button.
  6. Switch the SWR CAL knob to the SWR position.
  7. Press and hold the PTT button again. Read the SWR value on the meter. An SWR reading of 1.5:1 or lower is ideal. Higher readings indicate a poorly tuned antenna or connection issue.
  8. Release PTT. Return the SWR CAL knob to its normal operating position (e.g., S/RF).

6. Noise Blanker (NB) and Automatic Noise Limiter (ANL)

The NB/ANL switch helps reduce impulse noise (e.g., ignition noise) and continuous noise. Toggle the switch to activate these features as needed to improve reception clarity.

7. Roger Beep

The Roger Beep feature emits a short tone at the end of your transmission, signaling to other operators that you have finished speaking. Activate or deactivate this feature using its dedicated switch.

8. Instant Channel 19

Press the CH19 switch for immediate access to Channel 19, commonly used for emergency and highway information.

9. Talkback

The adjustable talkback feature allows you to hear your own voice through the radio's speaker while transmitting. Adjust the talkback level using its dedicated control.

10. Frequency Counter

The built-in frequency counter displays the precise operating frequency of the selected channel, providing accurate frequency information.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the radio. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections (power, antenna, microphone) to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the radio's ventilation openings are not blocked to prevent overheating.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power Loose power connection, blown fuse, incorrect voltage. Check power cable connections. Inspect and replace fuse if necessary. Verify power source voltage.
No reception or poor reception Antenna not connected, poorly tuned antenna, squelch set too high, RF gain too low. Ensure antenna is connected. Perform SWR calibration. Adjust squelch and RF gain.
Cannot transmit or low transmit power Microphone not connected, faulty microphone, high SWR, antenna issue. Check microphone connection. Test with another microphone if possible. Check SWR reading and antenna system.
Excessive noise/static Squelch too low, external interference, NB/ANL off. Increase squelch. Activate NB/ANL. Check for external noise sources.
