2. Safety Information

Always adhere to safety precautions when operating the device. This meter complies with IEC 61010-1, CAT IV 600V safety standards.

  • Do not attempt to measure voltage or current beyond the specified limits.
  • Ensure test leads are properly connected and in good condition before use.
  • Avoid contact with live circuits.
  • Do not operate the meter if it appears damaged or is not functioning correctly.
  • Always turn off the device and disconnect test leads before changing batteries or fuses.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
  2. Use a screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  3. Insert 3 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

3.2 Connecting Test Leads

  • Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) input jack.
  • Insert the red test lead into the "INPUT" jack for voltage, resistance, capacitance, diode, and frequency measurements.
  • For temperature measurements, connect the thermocouple to the appropriate input jacks as indicated on the meter.

4. Operating Instructions

The KC602 features an intelligent mode that automatically identifies measurement signals for convenience and safety.

4.1 Power On/Off and Smart Mode

  • Press the Power Button to turn the meter on. It will perform a self-test and display "CAL" before entering intelligent mode.
  • In intelligent mode, the meter automatically detects AC/DC voltage/current, resistance, and continuity.
  • The meter will automatically shut off after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.

4.2 AC/DC Current Measurement (Clamp Function)

  • Ensure the meter is in the appropriate current measurement mode (AC or DC).
  • Open the D-shaped jaws by pressing the trigger.
  • Clamp the jaws around a single conductor (not a cable with multiple conductors) carrying the current to be measured.
  • Read the current value displayed on the screen.

4.5 Inrush Current Function

  • The inrush current function is available in AC current mode and measures the maximum instantaneous current when a device is first turned on (range 5-600A).
  • This helps diagnose startup problems in motors or circuits.

4.6 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) and Live Wire Detection

  • The NCV function detects the presence of AC voltage without physical contact.
  • Place the top of the clamp meter near the conductor. The display will indicate voltage presence and intensity.
  • The live wire detection function helps identify live wires in an outlet or circuit.

4.7 Temperature Measurement

  • Connect the provided thermocouple to the meter's input jacks.
  • Place the thermocouple tip on or near the object whose temperature is to be measured.
  • Read the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit on the display.

4.8 Other Functions

  • MAX/MIN: Records the maximum and minimum readings during a measurement session.
  • Data Hold: Freezes the current reading on the display.
  • Flashlight: Built-in flashlight for working in dimly lit areas.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the meter's casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents.
  • Keep the display clean and free from dust.

5.2 Storage

  • Store the meter in its carrying case when not in use to protect it from dust and damage.
  • Remove batteries if the meter will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Meter does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Check battery polarity or replace batteries.
Inaccurate readings.Incorrect mode selection; damaged test leads; environmental interference.Ensure correct mode (Smart or Manual); check test leads for damage; move away from strong electromagnetic fields.
No continuity beep.Open circuit; high resistance; meter not in continuity mode.Verify circuit integrity; ensure resistance is below threshold; select continuity mode.
