3. Setup and Assembly

  1. Clean Before First Use: Wash all components with warm, soapy water before initial use. Rinse thoroughly.
  2. Assemble the Internal Parts: Place the percolator stem through the center hole of the coffee basket.
  3. Place Spreader Plate: Position the coffee basket lid (spreader plate) on top of the coffee grounds in the basket.
  4. Insert into Pot: Carefully lower the assembled stem and basket into the percolator pot, ensuring the bottom of the stem rests securely in the pot's base.
  5. Secure the Lid: Place the lid onto the percolator pot, ensuring it fits snugly. The clear knob on the lid allows you to observe the percolation process.

4. Operating Instructions

  1. Fill with Water: Remove the internal components and fill the percolator pot with cold water up to the desired level. The pot has 'MIN' and 'MAX' fill lines indicated on the side. Do not overfill.

  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the assembled stem and coffee basket back into the pot. Add your preferred coarse-ground coffee to the basket. Do not use fine-ground coffee, as it may seep through the basket holes. Do not overfill the basket.
  4. Heat the Percolator: Place the percolator on a stovetop burner or over a campfire. Use medium heat. Once the water begins to boil, it will be forced up the stem and cascade over the coffee grounds in the basket.
  5. Monitor Percolation: Observe the color of the coffee through the clear knob on the lid. The darker the color, the stronger the brew. Percolation typically takes 7-10 minutes after boiling begins, depending on desired strength.
  6. Remove from Heat: Once your coffee reaches the desired strength, carefully remove the percolator from the heat source.
  7. Serve: Allow the coffee to settle for a minute or two before serving. The cool-grip silicone handle ensures safe pouring.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

The STANLEY 1.1QT Stainless Steel Coffee Percolator is designed for easy cleaning.

  • Dishwasher Safe: All components of the percolator are 100% dishwasher safe.
  • Hand Washing: For hand washing, disassemble all parts. Wash with warm, soapy water using a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before reassembly or storage.
  • Stubborn Stains: For stubborn coffee stains, a mixture of baking soda and water can be used as a gentle abrasive.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Coffee is too weak:
    • Increase the amount of coffee grounds.
    • Allow the coffee to percolate for a longer duration.
    • Ensure you are using coarse-ground coffee. Fine grounds can lead to over-extraction or clogging.
  • Coffee has grounds:
    • Ensure the coffee basket is not overfilled.
    • Use coarse-ground coffee.
    • Check that the coffee basket lid/spreader plate is properly seated.
  • Percolator not bubbling:
    • Ensure the heat source is adequate and the water is boiling.
    • Check that the percolator stem is correctly seated in the base of the pot.
