5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

This tool is compatible with Makita 18V batteries (e.g., BL1850B, BL1840B, BL1830B, BL1430B, BL1820B). Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.

  1. Align the battery pack with the battery port on the saw handle.
  2. Slide the battery pack into the port until it clicks securely into place.
  3. To remove, press the release button on the battery pack and slide it out.

5.2 Blade Installation

Always ensure the tool is disconnected from the battery before installing or removing the blade.

  1. Locate the blade locking mechanism and engage it to prevent the blade from rotating.
  2. Use the provided T wrench to loosen the arbor nut by turning it to the right (clockwise).
  3. Remove the outer flange and the old blade.
  4. Clean any dust or debris from the arbor and flanges.
  5. Place the new 5-inch (125mm) saw blade onto the arbor, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the direction of the arrow on the blade guard.
  6. Replace the outer flange and tighten the arbor nut by turning it to the left (counter-clockwise) using the T wrench. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  7. Disengage the blade locking mechanism.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Adjusting Cutting Depth and Angle

The saw allows for precise adjustments to cutting depth and angle for various applications.

  • Cutting Depth: Loosen the depth adjustment knob, slide the base plate to the desired depth (up to 1-7/10" at 90° or 1-1/8" at 45°), and then tighten the knob securely.
  • Cutting Angle (Bevel): Loosen the bevel adjustment knob, tilt the base plate to the desired angle (0° to 45°), and then tighten the knob securely.

6.2 General Operation

  1. Ensure the workpiece is stable and clamped securely.
  2. Hold the saw firmly with both hands, maintaining a balanced stance. The ergonomic slim grip is designed for one-handed operation, but two-handed control is recommended for stability and safety.
  3. Engage the double protection switch and press the trigger to start the saw. Allow the blade to reach full speed before beginning the cut.
  4. Guide the saw smoothly along the cutting line, applying steady, even pressure. Do not force the saw through the material.
  5. After completing the cut, release the trigger and allow the blade to stop completely before setting the tool down.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the tool's ventilation openings to prevent motor overheating.
  • Remove sawdust and debris from the blade guard and base plate after each use.

7.2 Blade Care
