Setup and Initial Preparation
Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the generator from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage during shipping. Ensure all included components are present.
Adding Engine Oil
The generator is shipped without engine oil. Before the first start, you must add the correct amount and type of oil. The unit has a 0.5-quart oil capacity. Use the included 10W-30 engine oil and funnel for easy filling. Ensure the generator is on a level surface when checking and adding oil.
- Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick.
- Remove the cap and, using the provided funnel, slowly pour the engine oil into the crankcase until it reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.
- Securely replace the oil fill cap.
Fuel Connection (Gasoline or Propane)
This generator operates on either gasoline or propane. Choose your desired fuel source for operation.
- For Gasoline: Fill the 2.3-gallon fuel tank with unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill. Ensure the fuel cap is securely tightened.
- For Propane: Connect the included propane hose with regulator to a 20-pound (or larger) propane tank and then to the generator's propane inlet. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.

Operating Instructions
Safety Precautions
WARNING: Carbon Monoxide Hazard.
Generators produce carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Always operate the generator outdoors, far away from occupied buildings, with the engine exhaust pointed away from people and buildings. Never operate the generator indoors or in partially enclosed spaces. CO Shield technology is not a substitute for an indoor carbon monoxide alarm or for safe operation.
Starting the Generator
The EZ Start Dial simplifies the starting procedure:
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all connections (fuel, oil) are secure.
- Turn the EZ Start Dial to the desired fuel position (Gasoline or Propane).
- Press the electric start button. The generator should start. If not, refer to the troubleshooting section.
- Once started, allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before connecting electrical loads.
Connecting Electrical Loads
The generator provides various outlets for connecting your devices:
- 120V 30A RV (TT-30R) Outlet: For RVs and other high-power 120V applications.
- 120V 20A Household Duplex Outlet (5-20R): For standard household appliances and tools.
- 12V Regulated Automotive Outlet: For charging 12V batteries or powering 12V DC devices.
Always ensure the total wattage of connected devices does not exceed the generator's running wattage capacity (3500 watts on gasoline, 3150 watts on propane).

Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator. Always ensure the generator is turned off and cooled down before performing any maintenance.
Oil Changes
The first oil change should typically be performed after the initial 5-hour break-in period. Subsequent oil changes should follow the schedule outlined in the full product manual. The generator features a low oil shut-off sensor to protect the engine.
- Locate the oil drain tube and place a suitable container beneath it.
- Remove the oil drain plug to allow the oil to drain completely.
- Replace the drain plug and refill with 0.5 quarts of 10W-30 engine oil using the oil funnel.
- Check the oil level with the dipstick to ensure it is at the proper level.
General Care
- Keep the generator clean and free of debris.
- Regularly check air filter and spark plug as per the full manual's schedule.
- Store the generator in a dry, well-ventilated area when not in use.
- For extended storage, follow proper fuel stabilization and engine preparation procedures.
Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your generator. For more complex problems, contact Champion Support.
Generator Will Not Start
- Check Fuel Level: Ensure there is sufficient gasoline or propane.
- Check Oil Level: The low oil shut-off sensor will prevent starting if oil is too low. Add oil if necessary.
- EZ Start Dial Position: Confirm the dial is set to the correct fuel type and starting position.
- Battery Charge: For electric start, ensure the battery is charged.
- Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage.
No Power Output
- Circuit Breakers: Check if any circuit breakers on the control panel have tripped. Reset if needed.
- Overload: Reduce the total electrical load connected to the generator.
- Economy Mode: Ensure Economy Mode is not causing insufficient power for starting high-demand appliances.
CO Shield Activation
- If the CO Shield system shuts off the generator, move the generator to an open, well-ventilated area immediately.
- Allow the generator to cool down and ventilate for at least 5 minutes before attempting to restart.
- Ensure exhaust fumes are directed away from any occupied spaces.
