Important Safety Instructions
- Read all instructions before use.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- Always ensure the upper chamber is securely screwed onto the lower chamber before placing on a heat source.
- Do not overfill the lower chamber beyond the safety valve level.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on the moka pot.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- This moka pot is designed for brewing coffee only. Do not use it for other liquids or purposes.
- Ensure the heat source is appropriate for the moka pot's base diameter to prevent handle damage.
Components
Your Techwood TCA-106i Moka Pot consists of the following parts:
- Upper Chamber: Collects the brewed coffee.
- Filter Funnel: Holds the ground coffee.
- Gasket and Filter Plate: Creates a seal between the upper and lower chambers.
- Lower Chamber (Water Boiler): Holds the water and contains the safety valve.
- Handle: For safe handling when hot.

Setup and First Use
- Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials.
- Wash: Before first use, disassemble the moka pot and wash all parts thoroughly with warm water and mild soap. Rinse completely.
- Initial Brew (Conditioning): To season the moka pot and remove any manufacturing residues, brew coffee or just water 2-3 times and discard the liquid. This helps to ensure the best coffee flavor for subsequent brews.
Operating Instructions
- Fill the Lower Chamber: Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower chamber. Fill the lower chamber with cold water up to the level of the safety valve. Do not exceed the safety valve.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Insert the filter funnel into the lower chamber. Fill the filter funnel with medium-fine ground coffee. Do not tamp the coffee. Level the grounds gently.
- Assemble: Place the gasket and filter plate into the upper chamber. Screw the upper chamber firmly onto the lower chamber, ensuring a tight seal. Do not overtighten.
- Place on Stovetop: Place the moka pot on a heat source (gas, electric, ceramic, induction). Use a medium heat setting. For gas stoves, ensure the flame does not extend beyond the base of the moka pot to protect the handle.
- Brewing: Water in the lower chamber will heat up, creating steam pressure that forces water through the coffee grounds and up into the upper chamber. You will hear a gurgling sound as the coffee brews.
- Serve: Once the upper chamber is full of coffee and the gurgling sound stops, remove the moka pot from the heat immediately. Pour and serve your freshly brewed coffee.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your moka pot and ensure consistent coffee quality.
- Cool Down: Always allow the moka pot to cool completely before disassembling and cleaning.
- Disassemble: Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower chamber. Remove the filter funnel, gasket, and filter plate.
- Wash: Wash all parts with warm water. A mild detergent can be used, but rinse thoroughly to prevent soap residue from affecting coffee flavor.
- Hand Washing Recommended: While the product description mentions machine washable, hand washing is strongly advised for longevity and to preserve the finish.
- Dry Thoroughly: Dry all parts completely before reassembling or storing to prevent water spots and mineral buildup.
- Inspect Gasket: Periodically inspect the rubber gasket for wear and tear. Replace if it appears cracked or brittle to maintain a proper seal.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee does not brew or brews slowly. | Insufficient water; coffee grounds too fine or tamped too tightly; heat too low; clogged filter plate. | Ensure water is filled to the safety valve. Use medium-fine grounds and do not tamp. Increase heat. Clean filter plate. |
| Water leaks from the side. | Upper and lower chambers not screwed tightly; worn or improperly seated gasket. | Ensure chambers are tightly screwed. Check gasket for proper placement and replace if worn. |
| Coffee tastes burnt or bitter. | Heat too high; coffee brewed for too long; old or stale coffee grounds. | Use medium heat. Remove from heat immediately after brewing. Use fresh coffee grounds. |
| No coffee comes out, only steam. | Lower chamber empty; safety valve clogged. | Ensure sufficient water. Check and clean the safety valve. |
