3.1 General Soldering Tips
- Ensure your soldering iron tip is clean and tinned.
- Heat both the component lead and the PCB pad simultaneously.
- Apply a small amount of solder to create a shiny, cone-shaped joint.
- Avoid cold joints (dull, lumpy solder) and solder bridges (solder connecting two unintended points).
- Trim excess component leads after soldering.
4. Operation
Once assembled, the DIY RGB Clock offers several functions controlled by the two setting keys (SW1 and SW2) located on the PCB.
4.1 Basic Display Modes
The clock can cycle through displaying the current time, date, and temperature. The large 4-digit display shows information clearly with vibrant RGB colors.

4.2 Setting Time, Date, and Alarm
The clock features a memory function and an alarm clock with four music options. Specific instructions for setting the time, date, and alarm are detailed in the official PDF Installation Manual. Generally, the two setting keys (SW1 and SW2) are used to navigate menus and adjust values.
Note: Some users have found the setting process with only two buttons to be challenging. Refer to the detailed manual and practice to become familiar with the interface.
4.3 Color Customization
The RGB display allows for random color cycling or setting a specified color for the digits. This feature enhances the visual appeal of the clock.

4.4 Temperature Calibration
For accurate temperature readings, the thermistor may require calibration upon first use. Consult the official PDF manual for the calibration procedure.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your DIY RGB Clock.
5.1 Cleaning
To clean the clock's exterior, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure no moisture enters the electronic components. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
5.2 Button Battery
The clock utilizes a button battery (CR1220, as indicated in schematics) for memory backup, preserving time and settings during power outages. If the clock loses time or settings frequently after power disconnection, the button battery may need replacement. Refer to the manual for safe replacement procedures.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DIY RGB Clock, consider the following common problems and solutions:
- Clock does not power on:
Ensure the USB power cable is securely connected to both the clock and a working 5V power source. Check for any visible damage to the cable or the clock's power port. Verify all power-related solder joints on the PCB are solid. - Digits display incorrectly or colors bleed:
This can indicate a cold solder joint or a short circuit on the display segments. Carefully inspect the solder joints for the display components and the main ICs. Re-solder any dull or incomplete connections. Ensure no solder bridges are present between adjacent pins. - Difficulty setting time/date/alarm:
The two-button interface requires specific sequences for setting. Refer to the detailed instructions in the official PDF manual. Ensure the setting keys (SW1 and SW2) are properly soldered and functioning. - Missing components during assembly:
While rare, if you find a component missing from your kit, contact GeekLJT customer support immediately for assistance. Do not attempt to substitute components unless you are certain of their specifications and compatibility. - Inaccurate temperature reading:
Perform the temperature calibration procedure as outlined in the official PDF manual. Ensure the thermistor is correctly installed and its connections are secure.
