3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Device

Before initial use, fully charge the FiiO Q15. Connect a USB-C cable to the POWER IN port on the bottom of the device and connect the other end to a USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port. The charging indicator will show the charging status.

3.2 Connecting to a Source Device

The Q15 supports multiple input methods:

  • USB DAC Mode: Connect the Q15 to your computer, smartphone, or tablet using a USB-C to USB-C or USB-A to USB-C cable via the USB port. Ensure the appropriate drivers are installed on your computer if necessary (usually plug-and-play for most modern OS).
  • Coaxial Input: For digital audio players or other devices with coaxial output, connect a coaxial cable to the COAX IN port on the Q15.
  • Bluetooth Mode: For wireless connection, refer to section 4.3 for Bluetooth pairing instructions.

3.3 Connecting Headphones

Connect your headphones to the appropriate output jack on the top of the Q15. The Q15 supports both single-ended (3.5mm) and balanced (4.4mm) headphone connections.

3.4 Phone Mode and Desktop Mode

The Q15 features a switch to toggle between Phone Mode and Desktop Mode:

  • Phone Mode: When the OFF PHONE MODE switch is set to ON, the Q15 will be powered by its internal battery, preventing it from drawing power from the connected phone. This is ideal for portable use with smartphones.
  • Desktop Mode: When the OFF DESKTOP MODE switch is set to ON and a dedicated power supply is connected to the POWER IN port, the Q15 will bypass its internal battery and draw power directly from the external source. This enables the maximum 1600mW output power for driving high-impedance headphones. If connecting to a computer, ensure Phone Mode is OFF to allow the computer to recognize the Q15 as a DAC.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the Q15 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50-70%.
  • Port Protection: Keep all ports free from dust and debris.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Device Does Not Power On

  • Ensure the device is sufficiently charged. Connect it to a power source and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.
  • Verify that the power button is pressed and held for the required duration (typically a few seconds).

6.2 No Sound Output

  • Check headphone connections to ensure they are fully inserted into the correct output jack.
  • Verify the volume level on both the Q15 and the source device.
  • Confirm the correct input source (USB, Coaxial, Bluetooth) is selected on the Q15.
  • If using USB DAC mode, ensure Phone Mode is OFF if connecting to a computer, as Phone Mode prevents the Q15 from drawing power from the source and may affect data transfer.
  • For Bluetooth, ensure the Q15 is successfully paired and connected to your source device.

6.3 Connection Issues (USB/Bluetooth)

  • USB: Try a different USB cable or port. Ensure any necessary drivers are installed for your operating system. If using a computer, ensure Phone Mode is OFF.
  • Bluetooth: Unpair and re-pair the Q15 with your source device. Ensure no other devices are interfering with the Bluetooth signal.

6.4 Firmware Updates

Periodically check the official FiiO website for firmware updates. Firmware updates can resolve bugs, improve performance, and add new features. It is recommended to update the firmware directly from the FiiO website rather than relying solely on in-app notifications, as the app may sometimes be behind the latest available versions.
