Setup and Installation

Before installing any new components, ensure your pressure cooker is unplugged, completely cooled, and empty. Always refer to your pressure cooker's original manual for specific instructions regarding component removal and replacement.

1. Installing the Silicone Sealing Ring

  1. Carefully remove the old sealing ring from the pressure cooker lid. It usually sits in a groove around the inner rim of the lid.
  2. Inspect the new silicone sealing ring for any defects or damage.
  3. Align the new sealing ring with the groove on the inside of the pressure cooker lid. Ensure the ring is seated evenly and completely within the groove. Some rings may have a specific orientation or a small notch that aligns with a corresponding feature on the lid.
  4. Gently press the ring into place, working your way around the entire circumference until it is securely fitted.

2. Installing the Floater Valve and Sealing Gaskets

  1. Locate the floater valve opening on the inside of your pressure cooker lid.
  2. From the outside of the lid, insert the floater valve stem into the opening.
  3. From the inside of the lid, place one of the small silicone sealing gaskets onto the floater valve stem. Ensure it fits snugly.
  4. The floater valve should be able to move freely up and down within its opening, but the gasket should prevent steam from escaping around it when under pressure.
  5. Replace any other small silicone gaskets (e.g., for the steam release valve) as needed, using the additional gaskets provided in the kit.

Operating Considerations

The silicone sealing ring and floater valve are critical for the safe and effective operation of your pressure cooker. A properly installed and maintained sealing ring creates an airtight seal between the lid and the pot, allowing pressure to build. The floater valve rises when pressure is achieved, indicating that the cooker is pressurized and locked.

  • Always ensure the sealing ring is clean and free of food debris before each use.
  • Verify that the floater valve moves freely and its gasket is intact.
  • Never force the lid closed if the sealing ring is not seated correctly.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance extends the life of your pressure cooker components and ensures safe operation.

  • Cleaning: After each use, remove the silicone sealing ring and floater valve for thorough cleaning. Wash them with warm, soapy water or place them in the dishwasher (as they are dishwasher safe). Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before reassembling or storing.
  • Storage: Store the sealing ring loosely, not stretched or compressed, to maintain its shape and elasticity. Some users prefer to store the ring inverted or outside the lid to prevent it from taking on food odors.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the sealing ring for cracks, tears, hardening, or discoloration. Inspect the floater valve gasket for wear or damage. Replace components immediately if any signs of wear are observed, as a compromised seal can prevent the pressure cooker from operating safely or effectively.
  • Replacement: Silicone sealing rings typically need replacement every 12-18 months, or sooner with frequent use, as they can lose elasticity over time.

Troubleshooting

If your pressure cooker is not building pressure or is leaking steam, the replacement parts may be the cause. Here are some common issues and solutions:

  • Steam Leaking from Lid Edge:
    • Ensure the silicone sealing ring is correctly seated in the lid's groove and is not twisted or pinched.
    • Check the sealing ring for any food debris, cracks, or damage. Clean or replace if necessary.
    • Verify that the lid is properly closed and locked according to your pressure cooker's instructions.
  • Steam Leaking from Floater Valve:
    • Ensure the small silicone gasket on the floater valve stem is correctly installed and not damaged. Replace if worn.
    • Clean the floater valve and its opening to ensure no food particles are obstructing its movement.
  • Pressure Not Building:
    • This is often related to steam leaks. Recheck all sealing components (main ring, floater valve gasket, steam release valve gasket) for proper installation and condition.
    • Ensure there is sufficient liquid in the pot to generate steam.

If issues persist after checking these points, consult your pressure cooker's original manufacturer manual or contact their customer support.
