Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your TOTAL TGT196202 4.8 HP Petrol Lawn Mower. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the machine to ensure proper use and to prevent injury or damage. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
Safety Information
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including eye protection, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear when operating the lawn mower. Ensure the work area is clear of debris and bystanders. Never operate the mower in wet conditions or on excessively steep slopes. Disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance or adjustments.
Setup and Assembly
Before first use, some assembly and preparation are required.

- Handle Assembly: Attach the upper handle to the lower handle using the provided bolts and knobs. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Grass Box Attachment: Assemble the 60-liter grass box according to the instructions. Lift the rear discharge flap and hook the grass box onto the mower chassis.
- Fueling: Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline. The mower uses a 4-stroke engine; do not mix oil with gasoline in the fuel tank. Refer to the engine manual for specific fuel requirements.
- Engine Oil: Before starting, ensure the engine oil reservoir is filled to the correct level with the recommended engine oil. Check the dipstick for proper oil level.
- Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height can be adjusted from 28mm to 80mm. Use the height adjustment lever, typically located near the wheels, to select the desired cutting height. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height.
Operating Instructions
Starting the Engine
- Ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is correct.
- Move the throttle lever to the "START" or "CHOKE" position (if applicable).
- Firmly grasp the engine brake lever against the handle. The engine will not start unless this lever is held.
- Pull the starter rope with a quick, firm motion until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the throttle lever to the "RUN" position.
Mowing Techniques
- Mow in overlapping rows to ensure even coverage.
- For best results, avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass blade length at a time.
- The mower offers 3 functions: catcher, side exhaust, and mulch/rear exhaust. Select the appropriate function based on your needs.
- Empty the 60-liter grass box regularly to maintain optimal collection performance.
Stopping the Engine
Release the engine brake lever. The engine will stop automatically.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your lawn mower. Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the underside of the mower deck to prevent grass buildup. Clean the exterior with a damp cloth. Do not use a high-pressure washer directly on the engine.
- Blade Inspection: Regularly inspect the cutting blade for sharpness and damage. A dull blade can tear grass, leading to an unhealthy lawn. Have the blade sharpened or replaced by a qualified service technician if necessary.
- Engine Oil Change: Change the engine oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 25-50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Refer to the engine manual for specific oil change procedures and recommended oil type.
- Air Filter: Check and clean the air filter regularly, especially in dusty conditions. A clogged air filter can reduce engine performance. Replace if damaged.
- Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug annually. Clean or replace it if it is fouled or worn.
- Storage: For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank or use a fuel stabilizer. Clean the mower thoroughly and store it in a dry, protected area.
