  • Bluetooth Connection (BT5):
    1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your computer or mobile device.
    2. On the EMP16 or EMK-25, activate Bluetooth pairing mode (refer to the device's OLED display and buttons for specific instructions, typically a dedicated 'Wireless' or 'Bluetooth' button).
    3. On your computer/device, search for available Bluetooth MIDI devices and select 'EMP16' or 'EMK-25' to pair.
  • MIDI Cable Connection (EMP16 only): Use standard 5-pin MIDI cables to connect the EMP16's MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN of another MIDI device, or MIDI IN to MIDI OUT.

5. Operating Your Controllers

This section covers basic operation for both the EMP16 and EMK-25.

5.1 EMP16 Beat Pad Operation

  • Pads: The 16 RGB pads are velocity and pressure-sensitive. Strike them to trigger sounds or samples. Use the 'Bank' buttons to switch between the 4 pad banks, expanding your available triggers.
  • Faders: The 4 assignable faders can control various parameters in your software, such as volume, effects sends, or filter cutoff. Assign these within your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).
  • Rotary Knobs: The 4 endless rotary knobs provide continuous control over assigned parameters.
  • Buttons: The 5 assignable buttons and transport controls (Play, Stop, Record, etc.) allow for quick access to common functions.
  • OLED Display: Use the display and navigation buttons to view and adjust device settings, MIDI channels, and control assignments.

5.2 EMK-25 Keyboard Operation

  • Keys: The 25 velocity-sensitive waterfall keys are designed for playing melodies, chords, and bass lines.
  • Beat Pads: The 9 backlit pads can be used for drumming, triggering samples, or other MIDI events. Use the 'Bank' button to access 2 banks of pads.
  • Q-Link Knobs: The 8 Q-Link knobs are assignable to control various MIDI parameters in your software.
  • Joystick: The unique joystick provides combined pitch bend and modulation control. Move it left/right for pitch bend and up/down for modulation.

7. Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your HXW controllers.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the surfaces of the devices. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure no moisture enters the device. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the controllers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping the devices or subjecting them to strong impacts. Do not place heavy objects on top of them.
  • Cables: Always handle USB and MIDI cables by the connector, not the cable itself, to prevent damage.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HXW controllers, refer to the following common solutions.

8.1 No Power/Device Not Turning On

  • USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the controller and the power source/computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • Battery Power (EMP16/EMK-25): If using batteries, check that they are correctly inserted and not depleted. Replace with fresh batteries if necessary.

8.2 No MIDI Signal/Not Recognized by Software

  • USB Connection: Verify the USB cable is functional and connected. Restart your computer and DAW. Check your DAW's MIDI settings to ensure the controller is enabled as an input device.
  • Bluetooth Connection: Ensure the device is paired correctly via Bluetooth. Check your computer/device's Bluetooth settings and your DAW's MIDI settings. Try unpairing and re-pairing the device.
  • MIDI Channel: Ensure the controller's MIDI output channel matches the input channel of the instrument or track in your DAW.

8.3 Pads/Keys Unresponsive or Inconsistent

  • Velocity Settings: Check if the velocity curve or sensitivity settings on the device or in your DAW are adjusted too low.
  • Cleaning: Ensure pads and keys are clean and free from debris that might impede their movement or sensitivity.
