2. Safety Information

4. Product Overview

The BAOFENG DR-1801 is a compact and durable two-way radio designed for ease of use and reliable communication. It features a clear LCD screen, a full keypad, and dedicated function buttons.

4.1 Key Features

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
Slide the battery upwards until it clicks into place.
To remove, press the battery release latch (if present) and slide the battery downwards.

5.2 Antenna Attachment

Screw the provided antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

5.3 Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the battery. A full charge takes approximately 4 hours.

Insert the radio with the battery attached into the charging cradle.
Connect the AC adapter to the charging cradle and plug it into a power outlet.
The charging indicator light will show the charging status (typically red for charging, green for fully charged).

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off and Volume Control

Rotate the power/volume knob clockwise to turn on the radio and increase volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn off the radio.

6.2 Mode Selection (Digital/Analog)

The DR-1801 supports both digital (DMR) and analog modes. The current mode is displayed on the LCD screen. Use the menu or a pre-programmed shortcut key to switch between modes as needed.

6.3 Channel Selection and Frequency Input

Use the up/down arrow keys or the numeric keypad to select channels or directly input frequencies in VFO mode. The radio supports 1024 channels.

6.4 Transmitting and Receiving

To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to receive.

6.5 Advanced Features

SMS Function: Send and receive text messages between compatible DMR radios. Access this feature via the menu.

AES256 Encryption: Activate AES256 encryption through the radio's menu to secure your transmissions. Both transmitting and receiving radios must have the same encryption settings.

DMO True 2 Time Slot: This feature allows two simultaneous conversations on a single frequency in direct mode, doubling communication efficiency.
Channel Scan: Enable scan mode to monitor active channels.
Emergency Alarm: Activate the emergency alarm function for distress signaling.
PC Programming: For advanced configuration and channel management, the DR-1801 is compatible with a universal K-plug programming cable and PC software (sold separately).

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the radio's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the radio is dry before use.

7.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. If storing the radio for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% and remove it from the radio.
