Setup
Powering On the NVR
Before connecting cameras, ensure your Network Video Recorder (NVR) is powered on. Connect the 48V DC power adapter to the NVR's power input. If your NVR has a power switch, turn it on.
Connecting Cameras to NVR
There are two primary methods for connecting your REOLINK RLC-1240A cameras to the NVR:
Method 1: Direct Connection (Camera to NVR PoE Port)
For direct connection, use an Ethernet cable to connect the camera's network port directly to one of the Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports on your NVR. This method provides both power and data transmission through a single cable.

Method 2: Connection via Router (NVR and Cameras to Same Router)
If you need to access your NVR via the Reolink App, Client, or a web browser, or if you are using a separate PoE switch, connect the NVR's LAN port to your router using an Ethernet cable. Then, connect your cameras to a PoE switch, and connect the PoE switch to the same router.

Initial NVR Setup
After connecting your cameras, you can proceed with the initial setup of your NVR. This can be done via a monitor, the Reolink App, or the Reolink Client software.
Video: How to Set Up the Reolink PoE Camera System. This video demonstrates connecting cameras to the NVR and the initial setup process using a monitor, the Reolink App, and the Reolink Client.
Setup on a Monitor
Connect your NVR to a monitor or TV using a VGA or HDMI cable. Connect a USB mouse to the NVR. Follow the on-screen prompts to configure settings such as language, screen resolution, date/time format, device name, storage, network settings, and email settings. Once configured, the camera channels should appear on the screen.
Setup on the Reolink App
Launch the Reolink App on your smartphone. If your phone and NVR are on the same network, the NVR may be automatically added. If not, tap the 'Add Device' button. You can scan the QR code on the NVR, manually enter the UID or IP address, or use the LAN search function to find and add your device. Follow the prompts to create a login password and name your device.
Setup on the Reolink Client
Install and launch the Reolink Client software on your computer. Ensure your computer and NVR are connected to the same network for automatic detection. If the NVR is not automatically added, you can manually add it by scanning for devices in the LAN, entering the UID number, or providing the IP address. Once added, you will be prompted to create a login password and name the device.
Installation
Mounting Considerations
When choosing a mounting location for your RLC-1240A camera, consider the following to ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Avoid Direct Light Sources: Do not face the camera directly towards strong light sources like the sun, as this can cause glare and affect image quality.
- Weather Protection: While the camera is IP67 weatherproof, avoid positions where weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain, snow) can directly hit and cover the lens, which might temporarily obscure the view.
- Vandal Resistance: The camera is IK10 vandalproof, but strategic placement can further deter tampering.

Follow these steps to securely mount your REOLINK RLC-1240A camera:
- Prepare the Surface: Choose a flat, stable surface for mounting, such as a ceiling or wall.
- Use Mounting Template: Stick the provided mounting template to the desired installation spot.
- Drill Holes: Drill holes according to the marks on the mounting template.
- Insert Drywall Anchors: If mounting on drywall, gently tap the drywall anchors into the drilled holes using a hammer.
- Remove Dome Cover: Use the hex key to remove the dome cover from the camera base.
- Screw Camera Base: Align the camera base with the drilled holes and screw it securely to the ceiling or wall.
- Adjust Lens Angle: Adjust the lens angle as needed to ensure optimal coverage of your surveillance area. The camera features a swivel bracket for manual adjustment.
- Reattach Dome Cover: Screw the dome cover back onto the camera base, ensuring it is tightly sealed to maintain its weatherproof rating.

Maintenance
Cleaning
Regular cleaning of the camera lens and dome is recommended to maintain optimal image clarity. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or materials that could scratch the lens or dome.
Firmware Updates
Periodically check for firmware updates via the Reolink App or Client software. Firmware updates often include performance improvements, new features, and security enhancements. Follow the instructions provided within the app or client for a safe and successful update process.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause / Solution |
|---|---|
| No image/video on NVR/App/Client | Check power connection to NVR and camera. Ensure Ethernet cables are securely connected. Verify network connectivity between NVR/camera and router. Confirm correct NVR setup and camera addition in the app/client. |
| Poor image quality (blurry, dark, overexposed) | Clean the camera lens/dome. Adjust camera angle to avoid direct light sources. Check network bandwidth if streaming is choppy. Ensure night vision settings are appropriate for ambient light. |
| Motion detection not working or too many false alarms | Adjust motion detection sensitivity settings in the app/client. Configure detection zones to exclude irrelevant areas (e.g., moving trees). Ensure smart detection (person/vehicle/animal) is enabled correctly. |
| Two-way audio issues | Check microphone and speaker settings in the app/client. Ensure volume levels are adequate. Verify network stability for clear audio transmission. |
| Cannot access camera remotely | Ensure NVR/camera is connected to the internet. Check router settings for port forwarding if necessary (though Reolink P2P usually avoids this). Verify UID/IP address is correct. |
