3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safety and performance of your GORILLA GRIP Car Roof Bag. Follow these steps carefully.

3.1 Preparing the Roof Bag

1. Unpack the roof bag and ensure all components are present: roof bag, 8 attachment straps, 6 metal door hooks, storage bag, and combination lock.
2. Place the empty roof bag on your vehicle's roof, centered and oriented correctly.

3.2 Securing the Roof Bag (With Roof Rails)

If your vehicle has existing roof rails, use the provided attachment straps to secure the bag.

1. Load the bag with your items (see Section 4.1 for loading guidelines).
2. Thread the attachment straps through the buckles on the bag and around your vehicle's roof rails.
3. Tighten all 8 straps evenly to ensure the bag is firmly secured and does not shift.

3.3 Securing the Roof Bag (Without Roof Rails)

If your vehicle does not have roof rails, use the included metal door hooks.

1. Load the bag with your items (see Section 4.1 for loading guidelines).
2. Pull Back Weather Stripping: Open your car door and gently pull back the black rubber weather stripping along the top of the door frame. Important: If the weather stripping is glued and cannot be pulled back, this method cannot be used.
3. Hook Metal Clip to Car Door's Frame: With the weather stripping pulled back, hook the metal door hook onto the car's metal frame.
4. Press Weather Stripping Over Hook: Press the weather stripping back into place over the hooked metal clip.
5. Repeat for All Hooks: Attach all 6 hooks to the door frames. Install 2 hooks towards the front of the car and 1 towards the back on each side of the car.
6. Thread the attachment straps through the buckles on the bag and connect them to the metal door hooks.
7. Tighten all 8 straps evenly to ensure the bag is firmly secured and does not shift.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Loading the Roof Bag

• Distribute weight evenly inside the bag to maintain vehicle balance.
• Place heavier items at the bottom and center of the bag.
• Avoid overfilling the bag. Ensure zippers can close easily without strain.
• The 20 cubic feet capacity can typically hold 4 suitcases, 4 backpacks, 1 duffle bag, and 2 tents.

4.2 Securing Contents and Zippers

• Ensure all items inside are packed securely to prevent shifting during transit.
• Close the rust-resistant easy glide zippers completely.
• Utilize the built-in rain flap and extended zipper flaps to maximize waterproof protection.
• Use the provided combination lock to secure the zippers, deterring unauthorized access.

4.3 Driving with the Roof Bag

• Always adhere to the maximum speed limit of 75 mph (120 km/h) when the roof bag is loaded.
• Periodically check the straps and buckles during long trips to ensure they remain tight and secure.
• Be aware of increased vehicle height and potential wind resistance, especially in strong crosswinds.

6.1 Bag Shifting or Sliding

• Ensure all attachment straps are tightened evenly and securely.
• Verify that the built-in grip dots on the underside of the bag are in direct contact with the vehicle's roof.
• Check that the weight inside the bag is evenly distributed.

6.2 Water Leakage

• Confirm that all zippers are fully closed and the rain flap is properly positioned over them.
• Inspect the bag for any punctures or tears. While tear-resistant, extreme conditions or sharp objects can cause damage.
• Ensure the bag is not overfilled, which can strain zippers and seams.

6.3 Excessive Noise During Driving

• Ensure all excess strap material is neatly tucked away or secured to prevent flapping in the wind.
