Package Contents
Please ensure all items are present in the package:
- Targus Universal Laptop Lock (2-meter steel cable with red PVC coating, integrated key lock and combination lock)
- Two (2) Keys for the key lock
- One (1) Hook-and-loop cable strap

Setup
1. Checking Compatibility
The slot mechanism measures 6 x 6 mm when closed. Before use, verify that your laptop or notebook has a compatible security slot. Use the provided secure spacers to ensure a snug fit if needed.
2. Setting Your Combination (Initial Setup)
The lock is factory preset to 0-0-0-0. To set your personal 4-digit combination:
- Ensure the lock is open and set to the current combination (factory default is 0-0-0-0).
- Locate the reset button/mechanism. This is typically a small button or a rotatable part on the side or bottom of the combination lock unit.
- Using a small pointed object (like a pen tip) or the key, press and hold the reset button, or rotate the reset mechanism 90 degrees clockwise (or as indicated by the lock design).
- While holding the reset button/mechanism, set your desired 4-digit combination by rotating the number wheels. Choose a memorable combination.
- Release the reset button/mechanism. Your new combination is now set.
- Important: Write down your new combination and store it in a safe place. Without the combination, the lock cannot be opened.

Adjusting Cable Loop
The loop end of the cable is adjustable. You can slide the lock mechanism along the cable to create a larger or smaller loop, allowing you to secure the cable to various immovable objects such as a desk leg or a heavy piece of furniture.
Use the included hook-and-loop strap to neatly manage any excess cable length, preventing tangles and maintaining a tidy workspace.
Maintenance
- Keep the lock mechanisms clean and free from dust and debris.
- Avoid exposing the lock to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals.
- Periodically check the cable for any signs of wear or damage. If the cable or lock mechanism appears damaged, discontinue use.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause / Solution |
|---|---|
| Cannot set new combination. | Ensure the lock is open and set to the current combination (factory default 0-0-0-0). Make sure the reset button/mechanism is fully engaged while setting the new combination. |
| Combination lock will not open. | Verify that you are entering the correct 4-digit combination. Ensure each number wheel is precisely aligned with the indicator marks. Try slightly wiggling the wheels. |
| Key lock will not open/close. | Ensure the key is fully inserted and turned correctly. Check for any obstructions in the keyhole. Do not force the key. |
| Lock head does not fit into laptop slot. | Confirm your laptop has a standard 6x6mm security slot. Try using one of the provided secure spacers to achieve a better fit. If it still doesn't fit, your device may have a different type of security slot. |
