  • Power Disconnection: Always disconnect the printer from the power source before installing, removing, or servicing the printhead.
  • Static Electricity: Printheads are sensitive to static electricity. Use anti-static precautions (e.g., anti-static wrist strap, grounded mat) when handling the printhead.

    • Turn off the NOVEXX XLP504 printer and disconnect it from the power outlet.

5. Operating the Printhead (Indirectly)

The printhead itself does not have direct user controls. Its operation is managed by the NOVEXX XLP504 thermal barcode printer. Once installed, the printhead functions as an integral part of the printer's thermal transfer or direct thermal printing process.

To operate the printhead, ensure the printer is:

  • Properly loaded with compatible labels and ribbon (if using thermal transfer).
  • Connected to a computer or network via USB or other specified interfaces.
  • Configured with the correct printer drivers and software.

Print jobs sent from your computer to the NOVEXX XLP504 printer will activate the printhead to create images and text on the label media.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the printhead is crucial for extending its lifespan and ensuring consistent print quality. Always turn off and unplug the printer before performing any maintenance.

6.1. Cleaning the Printhead

Dust, adhesive residue, and debris can accumulate on the printhead, leading to poor print quality (e.g., white lines, faded prints). Clean the printhead regularly, especially after changing label rolls or if print quality degrades.

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Open the printhead assembly.
  3. Using a lint-free cloth or a specialized printhead cleaning wipe moistened with isopropyl alcohol (99% pure), gently wipe the thermal elements of the printhead. Wipe in one direction, from one end to the other, to avoid scratching.
  4. Allow the printhead to air dry completely (approximately 2-3 minutes) before closing the printer and reconnecting power.

Do not use abrasive materials or sharp objects to clean the printhead.

6.2. Printhead Life

The lifespan of a thermal printhead is finite and depends on factors such as print volume, print darkness settings, and proper maintenance. A 600dpi printhead, like this one, is designed for high-resolution printing. Replace the printhead when print quality consistently deteriorates despite cleaning, or when visible damage occurs to the thermal elements.
