General Heat Transfer Process (Platen Press)

Three-step diagram illustrating the heat press operation: 1. Place item on transfer plate. 2. Rotate plate and align. 3. Press down handle firmly.

Image: A sequential diagram demonstrating the basic steps for using the heat press: preparing the item, positioning it on the platen, and applying pressure with the handle.

  1. Prepare Design: Create or print your design onto sublimation paper using appropriate sublimation ink. Ensure the design is mirrored if required for your material.
  2. Pre-heat Machine: Set the desired temperature and time according to your material and transfer paper specifications. Allow the machine to reach the set temperature.
  3. Prepare Item: Place the item (e.g., T-shirt) onto the silicone pad of the bottom platen. Smooth out any wrinkles. You may pre-press the item for a few seconds to remove moisture.
  4. Position Design: Place the sublimation paper with the design face down onto the item. Secure it with heat-resistant tape if necessary. Cover with a Teflon sheet.
  5. Swing Away: Utilize the 360° swing-away design to move the heating element safely aside, allowing for easy placement and removal of items.
  6. Apply Pressure: Swing the heating element back over the item. Lower the handle to apply firm, even pressure. Adjust the pressure knob if needed.
  7. Start Timer: The timer will automatically start once the handle is fully pressed down.
  8. Completion: Once the timer alarms, lift the handle and swing the heating element away. Carefully remove the Teflon sheet and then the sublimation paper.
  9. Cool Down: Allow the transferred item to cool before handling extensively.

Using the Tumbler Press Attachment

The 30oz tumbler press attachment is suitable for 11oz, 16oz, 20oz, and 30oz skinny tumblers and straight mugs with a diameter range of 2.65-3.4 inches and a maximum length of 10.6 inches.

  1. Install the tumbler press attachment onto the main unit.
  2. Set the appropriate temperature and time for tumbler sublimation.
  3. Wrap your sublimation design tightly around the tumbler and secure it with heat-resistant tape.
  4. Insert the prepared tumbler into the tumbler press. Adjust the pressure if necessary to ensure even contact.
  5. Close the press and start the timer.
  6. Once complete, carefully remove the hot tumbler using heat-resistant gloves and allow it to cool.

Using Hat and Plate Press Attachments

Follow similar steps as the general heat transfer process, ensuring the correct attachment is installed and temperature/time settings are adjusted for the specific material (hats, ceramic plates) and sublimation paper.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Heating Platen: Ensure the machine is cool and unplugged. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the non-stick Teflon-coated surface. For stubborn residues, a mild, non-abrasive cleaner can be used sparingly. Avoid scratching the surface.
  • Cleaning Attachments: Clean hat, tumbler, and plate press attachments similarly after they have cooled down.
  • Silicone Pad: Periodically inspect the silicone pad for wear or damage. Replace if necessary to ensure even pressure.
  • General Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and debris.
  • Storage: Store the machine in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use.

Troubleshooting
