Setup
1. CPU Installation
Carefully open the CPU socket lever. Align the triangular mark on your AMD AM5 processor with the corresponding mark on the socket. Gently place the CPU into the socket without applying force. Close the lever to secure the CPU.
2. RAM Installation
Locate the two DDR5 DIMM slots. Open the clips on both ends of the slot. Align the notch on the DDR5 memory module with the key in the DIMM slot. Press down firmly on both ends of the memory module until the clips snap into place.
3. Storage Installation
- M.2 SSDs: The motherboard features one Blazing M.2 (PCIe Gen5x4) slot and one Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) slot. Remove the M.2 heatsink/armor, insert the M.2 SSD into the slot at an angle, then push it down and secure it with the provided screw. Reattach the heatsink if applicable.
- SATA Drives: Connect your SATA storage devices (HDDs/SSDs) to the four SATA3 ports using SATA data cables. Ensure power is supplied to the drives from your power supply.
4. Graphics Card Installation
Insert your graphics card into the PCIe 4.0 x16 slot. Ensure it is seated firmly and secure it with the case's retention mechanism. Connect any necessary PCIe power cables from your power supply to the graphics card.
5. Power Connections
Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the main power socket on the motherboard. Connect the 8-pin CPU power connector to the CPU power socket located near the top-left of the CPU socket.
6. Case Connections
Connect your case's front panel connectors (power button, reset button, USB ports, audio jacks) to the corresponding headers on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard diagram (Figure 2) for header locations.
7. BIOS Flashback
The motherboard supports BIOS Flashback, allowing you to update the BIOS without a CPU, RAM, or graphics card installed. This is useful for ensuring compatibility with newer CPUs. Refer to the ASRock website for detailed instructions on using BIOS Flashback.
8. Driver Installation
After initial setup and operating system installation, use the ASRock Auto Driver Installer to automatically detect and install necessary drivers for your motherboard components.
Note: This micro-ATX form factor may not be compatible with all cases. Please verify your chassis specifications before purchase.
Operating
Initial Boot-Up
After assembling your system, connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on your system. The system should boot to the BIOS/UEFI interface or your installed operating system.
BIOS/UEFI Access
To enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility, press the Del or F2 key during the Power-On Self-Test (POST) phase. The BIOS/UEFI allows you to configure system settings, boot order, and monitor hardware status.
Integrated Graphics
If your AMD AM5 processor includes integrated graphics (e.g., Ryzen G-series), you can use the HDMI or DisplayPort outputs on the rear I/O panel without a dedicated graphics card. Ensure your monitor is connected to the appropriate port.
Fan Connections
The motherboard provides multiple fan headers for CPU and chassis fans. Connect your fans to these headers to ensure adequate cooling. Fan speeds can typically be controlled via the BIOS/UEFI or dedicated software.
RGB Lighting
The motherboard includes headers for connecting RGB lighting strips or devices. These are 12V headers. Refer to your RGB device's manual for connection instructions and use compatible software for control.
Maintenance
System Cleaning
Regularly clean your computer system to prevent dust buildup, which can lead to overheating and reduced performance. Use compressed air to remove dust from fans, heatsinks, and internal components. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
BIOS Updates
Periodically check the ASRock support website for BIOS updates. BIOS updates can improve system stability, add support for new hardware, or fix bugs. Use the BIOS Flashback feature or the in-BIOS update utility for safe updates.
Driver Updates
Keep your motherboard drivers updated to ensure compatibility and optimal performance with your operating system and other hardware. Drivers can be downloaded from the ASRock support website or updated via the ASRock Auto Driver Installer.
Troubleshooting
No Boot/Display Issues
- Check Power Connections: Ensure all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, PCIe for graphics card) are securely connected.
- Reseat Components: Try reseating the CPU, RAM modules, and graphics card to ensure they are properly seated in their respective slots.
- BIOS Flashback: If you are using a new generation CPU, the motherboard's BIOS might need to be updated. Use the BIOS Flashback feature to update the BIOS to the latest version.
- Integrated Graphics: If you have a dedicated graphics card and no display, try removing the card and connecting your monitor to the motherboard's integrated graphics ports (HDMI/DisplayPort) if your CPU supports it.
- Boot Status LEDs: The motherboard may feature diagnostic LEDs (e.g., for CPU, DRAM, VGA, BOOT) that light up to indicate where the boot process is failing. Consult the motherboard manual for the meaning of these LEDs.
System Instability/Crashes
- Check RAM: Ensure RAM modules are compatible and correctly installed. Test with one RAM stick at a time if issues persist.
- Overheating: Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures. Ensure all fans are working correctly and heatsinks are properly mounted.
- Driver Issues: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause instability. Update all drivers to the latest versions.
- BIOS Settings: Reset BIOS settings to default. Incorrect overclocking or voltage settings can lead to instability.
USB/Peripheral Issues
- Check Connections: Ensure USB devices are properly connected to the correct ports.
- Driver Updates: Update USB controller drivers.
- BIOS Settings: Check BIOS settings related to USB controllers.
