Setup

1. Connecting the Base Unit

  1. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the DC IN port on the back of the base unit, then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Connect to Landline: Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the "LINE" port on the back of the base unit. Plug the other end into your wall telephone jack.
  3. Optional Phone Connection: If you wish to connect an additional telephone to the system, plug it into the "PHONE" port on the back of the base unit.
  4. Power On: The unit should power on automatically. The display will light up.

2. Programming Emergency Contacts

The system can store multiple emergency contact numbers (typically 1-30, depending on model memory). These numbers will be dialed in sequence when an emergency alert is triggered.

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Press the "PRO" button on the base unit. The display will indicate programming mode.
  2. Select Memory Slot: Use the keypad to select the memory slot (e.g., M1, M2, M3) where you want to store the number.
  3. Enter Phone Number: Type the full telephone number (including area code) of your emergency contact.
  4. Save: Press the "PRO" button again to save the number. Repeat for all desired emergency contacts.
  5. Exit Programming Mode: Press the "OK/C" button to exit programming mode.

Note: It is highly recommended to program at least three emergency contacts, including family members, trusted friends, or neighbors, before considering 911 as a last resort. Ensure these contacts are aware they are on your emergency list.

3. Pairing the Wireless Pendant

The pendant usually comes pre-paired. If not, or if you need to re-pair it:

  1. Enter Pairing Mode: Refer to your specific model's manual section for "Pendant Pairing" as this can vary. Typically, it involves pressing a button on the base unit for a few seconds until an indicator light flashes.
  2. Activate Pendant: While the base unit is in pairing mode, press the red button on the wireless pendant. The base unit should confirm successful pairing (e.g., with a beep or display message).

Operating Instructions

1. Emergency Alert Function

In the event of an emergency, you can trigger an alert from either the base unit or the wireless pendant.

  • From Base Unit: Press the large red "SOS" button on the base unit.
  • From Wireless Pendant: Press the red button on the pendant.

Upon activation, the unit will:

  1. Begin auto-dialing your pre-programmed emergency contacts in sequence.
  2. Allow for two-way voice communication between you and the answering contact.
  3. Continue dialing through the list until a contact answers and acknowledges the call.

Important: Speak clearly into the base unit's microphone or the pendant (if it has a speaker/mic) when communicating with your contacts.

2. Optional Social Safety Monitor ("I'm OK" Feature)

This feature allows the system to check on your well-being daily. It is entirely optional and can be enabled or disabled as needed.

  • Setting Alarm Times: You can set up to two daily alarm times. Refer to the "Programming" section of your manual for detailed steps on setting these times.
  • Responding to the Alarm: When an alarm time is reached, the base unit will emit an audible alert. To indicate you are "OK," simply press any button on the base unit or the pendant within 30 minutes of the alarm sounding.
  • No Response: If no response is detected within 30 minutes, the system will automatically begin dialing your emergency contacts, notifying them that the daily check-in was not acknowledged. This indicates a potential situation requiring assistance.

3. Two-Way Voice Communication

Once an emergency call is connected, the system facilitates two-way voice communication. This allows you to speak directly with your emergency contact, providing details about your situation or receiving instructions.

  • The base unit has a built-in speaker and microphone for clear communication.
  • Some pendants may also feature a speaker and microphone for direct communication through the pendant itself.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the base unit and pendant with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement (Pendant): The wireless pendant uses a CR2 battery (included). When the battery is low, the base unit may indicate a low pendant battery warning. Refer to the specific instructions for replacing the pendant battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Regular Testing: It is crucial to test your system regularly (e.g., once a month) to ensure all components are working correctly and that your emergency contacts receive the alerts. Inform your contacts before conducting a test.
