Setup Instructions
1. Unpacking
Carefully remove the iron from its packaging. Remove any protective films or stickers from the soleplate. Retain the packaging for storage or future transport.
2. Filling the Water Tank
- Ensure the iron is unplugged from the power outlet.
- Set the steam control to the "dry iron" position (no steam).
- Open the water filler cap.
- Using a measuring cup, carefully pour clean tap water into the water tank up to the "MAX" fill line. Do not overfill.
- Close the water filler cap securely.
Note: For areas with hard water, it is recommended to use a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% distilled water to minimize scale build-up.
Operating Instructions
1. Preparing for Ironing
- Sort garments according to fabric type (e.g., linen, cotton, wool, silk, synthetics).
- Check garment care labels for recommended ironing temperatures.
- Begin ironing with fabrics that require lower temperatures first.
2. Temperature Setting
- Plug the iron into a suitable 220V~240V power outlet.
- Turn the temperature dial to the desired setting based on the fabric type. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Wait for the indicator light to turn off, indicating that the iron has reached the selected temperature.
3. Dry Ironing
For dry ironing, ensure the steam control is set to the "dry iron" position (no steam). Proceed with ironing as usual.
4. Steam Ironing
Steam ironing is suitable for most fabrics except synthetics and silk. Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Set the temperature dial to the steam ironing range (usually indicated on the dial). The iron must be hot enough to produce steam.
- Once the indicator light turns off, adjust the steam control to the desired steam output.
- Begin ironing.
5. Steam Burst Function
For stubborn creases, press the steam burst button. This delivers a powerful shot of steam (101g). Allow a few seconds between bursts for optimal steam generation.
6. Vertical Steam
The iron can be used for vertical steaming of hanging garments, curtains, or drapes. Hold the iron vertically, ensure it is at a high temperature setting, and press the steam burst button repeatedly while holding the iron a few inches from the fabric.
7. Anti-Drip System
The anti-drip system prevents water from dripping from the soleplate when the iron is not hot enough for steam. If you notice dripping, increase the temperature setting.
8. Auto Shutoff
For safety, the iron will automatically turn off if left unattended. If left horizontally, it will shut off after approximately 30 seconds. If left vertically on its heel rest, it will shut off after approximately 8 minutes. To reactivate, simply move the iron.
Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your JVD Vierra Steam Iron.
1. Cleaning the Soleplate
- Ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cool.
- Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner if necessary.
- Do not use abrasive scouring pads or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the ceramic coating.
2. Anti-Scale / Self-Clean Function
The iron features an anti-scale system to reduce mineral build-up. For additional cleaning:
- Fill the water tank to the "MAX" line.
- Plug in the iron and set the temperature to maximum.
- Once the indicator light turns off, unplug the iron.
- Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
- Press and hold the self-clean button (if available, or refer to specific model instructions for self-clean activation). Hot water and steam will be expelled from the soleplate, flushing out mineral deposits.
- Gently shake the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
- Plug in the iron again and let it heat up to dry the soleplate.
- Unplug and let it cool completely before storing.
3. Storage
After each use, unplug the iron, empty any remaining water from the tank, and allow it to cool completely. Store the iron upright on its heel rest in a safe, dry place.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Iron does not heat up. | Not plugged in; power outlet faulty; auto shutoff activated. | Check power connection; try another outlet; move the iron to reactivate. |
| No steam or insufficient steam. | Water tank empty; temperature too low; steam control set to "dry iron". | Fill water tank; set temperature to steam range; adjust steam control. |
| Water drips from soleplate. | Temperature too low for steam; water tank overfilled. | Increase temperature setting; do not overfill water tank. |
| White flakes coming from soleplate. | Mineral deposits (scale) in the water tank. | Perform the self-clean function. Use distilled water or a mix with tap water. |
