1. Introduction

4. Product Overview

Familiarize yourself with the main components and controls of your DM-1701 radio.

• Antenna: For transmitting and receiving signals.
• Channel Knob/Power/Volume: Rotates to select channels, turns clockwise to power on and increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.
• PTT (Push-To-Talk) Button: Press and hold to transmit, release to receive.
• SK1/SK2/SK3 (Side Keys): Programmable function keys.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
2. Slide the battery upwards until it clicks into place.
3. To remove, push the battery release latch (if present) and slide the battery downwards.

5.2 Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

5.3 Charging the Battery

1. Connect the AC adapter to the charging dock.
2. Plug the AC adapter into a power outlet.
3. Place the radio (with battery installed) or the battery pack alone into the charging dock.
4. The charging indicator light will show the charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).

6. Operation

6.1 Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

Rotate the Channel Knob/Power/Volume knob clockwise to power on the radio. Continue rotating clockwise to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off the radio.

6.2 Channel Selection

Rotate the Channel Knob to select a desired channel. The display will show the current channel number and frequency.

The DM-1701 supports up to 3000 memory channels, allowing for extensive pre-programmed communication options.

6.3 Transmitting and Receiving

1. To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
2. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and return to receive mode.
3. Ensure the channel is clear before transmitting to avoid interference.

6.4 Digital and Analog Modes

The DM-1701 operates in both DMR digital and traditional analog modes. The radio can be configured to switch between these modes based on the selected channel or user settings. Digital mode offers clearer audio and enhanced features like voice encryption and individual/group calls.

6.5 VOX Function

The Voice Operated Exchange (VOX) function allows for hands-free transmission. When VOX is enabled, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice, eliminating the need to press the PTT button. This feature can be configured through the radio's menu.

6.6 Call Functions (Digital Mode)

• Private Call: Direct communication with a specific radio user.
• Group Call: Communication with a predefined group of radio users.
• All Call: Broadcast message to all radios within range on the current channel.

• Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's surface. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
• Battery Care:

  • Do not overcharge or deep discharge the battery.
