Package Contents

The package includes the following items:

  • 1x Hormann WLAN-Gateway
  • 1x 2-meter 6-core connection cable (Note: A longer connection cable may be required for connection to garage door operators.)

Setup

Installation Steps

  1. Prepare the Garage Door Operator: Ensure your Hormann garage door operator is powered off before beginning installation.
  2. Connect the Gateway: Locate the designated port on your garage door operator. Connect the 6-core connection cable from the WLAN-Gateway to this port. Note: For some garage door operators, a longer connection cable might be necessary.
  3. Power On: Restore power to the garage door operator. The gateway will power on automatically.
  4. Activate Bus Scan (for Supramatic P4 and similar models): For certain models like Supramatic P4, it is essential to activate the bus from the door operator. This is typically done via the operator's programming menu. An example sequence for Supramatic P4 is: PRG (long press) → 37 → PRG (short press) → 01 → PRG (long press). This sequence activates the bus scan, which is required for the gateway to receive power and communicate.

Pairing with Smart Home Systems

The gateway supports integration with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home/Google Assistant. The pairing process is generally straightforward:

  • For Apple HomeKit:
    1. Open the Apple Home app on your iOS device.
    2. Tap the "+" icon to add an accessory.
    3. Scan the HomeKit QR code located on the WLAN-Gateway or its packaging.
    4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing.
  • For Amazon Alexa / Google Home:
    1. Ensure your Amazon Alexa or Google Home app is installed and configured.
    2. Open the respective app and navigate to the device addition section.
    3. Search for "Hormann" or "Garage Door" skills/devices.
    4. Follow the app's instructions to link your Hormann account (if applicable) and discover the gateway.

Tip: Hormann provides helpful "How-To" videos online, particularly on platforms like YouTube, which can guide you through the pairing process for different smart home systems.

Operating Instructions

Once successfully integrated with your Smart Home system, you can control your garage door operator using voice commands or through the respective app.

  • Voice Control: Use commands such as "Hey Siri, open the garage door," "Alexa, close the garage door," or "Ok Google, is the garage door open?" (Exact commands may vary based on your Smart Home system configuration).
  • App Control: Use the Apple Home app, Amazon Alexa app, or Google Home app to manually open, close, or check the status of your garage door.
  • Routines and Automations: Configure routines or automations within your Smart Home app to automate garage door operations (e.g., open when you arrive home, close at a specific time).

Maintenance

The Hormann WLAN-Gateway is designed for low maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the gateway with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the gateway is not exposed to extreme temperatures outside its specified operating range (-20 °C to +60 °C) or excessive moisture beyond its IPX4 rating.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check for firmware updates through your Smart Home app or Hormann's official support channels to ensure compatibility and access to new features.
