Cleaning and Maintenance

Breast Pump Cleaning

Clean all parts that come into contact with breast milk immediately after each use to prevent milk residue from drying and to maintain hygiene.

  1. Disassemble: Take apart all components of the breast pump.
  2. Rinse: Rinse all parts under cold running water to remove milk residue.
  3. Wash: Wash parts in warm soapy water using a soft brush. Alternatively, parts can be washed on the top rack of a dishwasher.
  4. Rinse Again: Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  5. Sterilize: Sterilize parts daily using the Philips Avent Bottle Sterilizer, a steam sterilizer, or by boiling for 5 minutes.
  6. Dry: Allow parts to air dry on a clean drying rack or use a clean cloth. Store in a clean, dry place.
  7. Motor Unit: Wipe the motor unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse in water.

Sterilizer Cleaning and Descaling

Regular cleaning and descaling are essential to ensure efficient operation and longevity of your sterilizer.

  1. Daily Cleaning: After each use, unplug the sterilizer and allow it to cool. Wipe the base and baskets with a damp cloth.
  2. Descaling: Limescale can build up on the heating plate, especially in areas with hard water. Descale the sterilizer every 2-4 weeks, or more frequently if needed.
    • Mix 80ml of white vinegar with 20ml of water.
    • Pour the mixture into the base of the sterilizer.
    • Do not load any items. Run a sterilization cycle.
    • After the cycle, unplug and let it cool. Pour out the mixture and rinse the base thoroughly with clean water.
    • Wipe the heating plate with a damp cloth to remove any remaining scale.
