Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. These speakers are designed for in-wall mounting and feature a simple one-cut, drop-in installation process with Perfect Fit templates.
Unpacking
Carefully remove the speakers from their packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or service needs.
Location Selection
For a center channel speaker, ideal placement is typically directly above or below your television or projection screen, centered horizontally. Ensure there is sufficient space within the wall cavity and no obstructions like electrical wiring, plumbing, or studs.
Wall Preparation and Cutout
- Use the provided Perfect Fit template to mark the cutout area on your wall.
- Carefully cut the opening using an appropriate tool (e.g., drywall saw).
- Ensure the cutout dimensions are approximately 7.5 inches (19.05 cm) in height and 13.06 inches (33.17 cm) in width.

Wiring
Connect your speaker wires from your amplifier or receiver to the speaker terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for optimal sound performance. The speaker features spring-loaded terminals for secure connections.

Mounting
The 255c-RT utilizes a Rotating Cam system for secure, vibration-free installation. Once the speaker is placed into the cutout, tighten the mounting screws, which will engage the cams to grip the wall firmly.

Grille Installation
The speaker comes with a paintable Sheer-Grille™ that attaches magnetically. Align the grille with the speaker frame and it will snap into place. The ultra-small perforations ensure dynamic, unimpeded sound.
Operating Instructions
Once installed and connected, your Polk Audio 255c-RT speakers are ready for use. Ensure your amplifier or receiver is powered on and set to the correct input.
Audio Adjustments
The 255c-RT features a 1" Silk dome tweeter set in a 15-degree swivel housing, offering placement flexibility. Additionally, it includes a Reflective Room Compensation switch (Filter/Norm) which lowers tweeter levels to offset reflective surfaces, ensuring a balanced sound profile in various room environments.

Adjust your amplifier's volume and tone controls to achieve your desired sound. For optimal performance, consider running an automatic room correction system if your receiver supports it.
Maintenance
Your Polk Audio 255c-RT speakers require minimal maintenance to ensure long-lasting performance and appearance.
Cleaning
To clean the speaker grilles and frames, use a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but avoid excessive moisture. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish or grille material.
Grille Painting (Optional)
The Sheer-Grille™ can be painted to match your room decor. For best results, use a fine-mist spray paint and apply several thin coats. Ensure the paint does not clog the grille perforations, as this can affect sound quality. Allow the grille to dry completely before reattaching.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your speakers, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Sound:
- Check all speaker wire connections at both the speaker and the amplifier/receiver. Ensure correct polarity.
- Verify that your amplifier/receiver is powered on and set to the correct input source.
- Confirm that the volume is turned up and not muted.
- Distorted Sound:
- Reduce the volume level on your amplifier/receiver. Overdriving the speakers can cause distortion.
- Check speaker wire connections for any loose strands or short circuits.
- Ensure the amplifier/receiver is not clipping (indicated by a harsh, distorted sound at high volumes).
- Poor Bass Response:
- Verify that your amplifier/receiver's bass settings are appropriately adjusted.
- Ensure the speaker wires are connected with correct polarity. Incorrect polarity can cause bass cancellation.
- Check if the Reflective Room Compensation switch is set to 'Norm' if you desire full tweeter output, or adjust as needed for your room acoustics.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Polk Audio customer support.
