3. Setup
Charging the Multimeter
The KAIWEETS KM601s features a built-in 1200mAh rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. Before first use, or when the battery indicator shows low charge, connect the multimeter to a 5V DC power source using the provided USB charging cable.

Figure 3.1: Charging the KM601s Multimeter. The display shows 'FULL' when charging is complete, indicating the 1200mAh battery is fully charged.
The charging port is located on the side of the device. The display will indicate charging status and show 'FULL' when charging is complete. The rechargeable design eliminates the need for manual battery replacement.
Initial Power On
Press and hold the power button to turn on the multimeter. The device will typically start in Smart Mode by default.
4. Operating Instructions
The KM601s offers both an intelligent automatic mode and a manual mode for various measurements.
Smart Mode (Default)
In Smart Mode, the multimeter automatically identifies the measurement type (voltage, resistance, continuity) and selects the optimal range. This simplifies operation for quick and convenient measurements.

Figure 4.1: Smart Mode Display. The screen indicates 'Auto' and shows icons for various measurement types the device can automatically detect.

Figure 4.2: Smart vs. Manual Mode. This image illustrates the distinction between automatic measurement in Smart mode and professional measurement in Manual mode.
Manual Mode
To switch to Manual Mode, press the 'AUTO FUNC' button. In Manual Mode, you can precisely select the measurement function and range using the 'SEL' and 'RANGE' buttons, respectively. This mode is suitable for experienced users requiring specific control over measurements.
Measurement Functions:
The KM601s can accurately measure a wide array of electrical parameters:
- AC and DC Voltage
- AC and DC Current
- Resistance
- Continuity
- Capacitance
- Frequency
- Diode
- Duty Cycle
- Temperature
- Non-Contact Voltage (NCV)
- Live Wire Detection
General Measurement Procedure:
- Connect the test leads to the appropriate input jacks (COM and VΩHz™CAP for most measurements, mA or 10A for current).
- Select the desired measurement function (or allow Smart Mode to detect).
- Apply the test probes to the circuit or component under test.
- Read the measurement value on the display.

Figure 4.3: Wide Application of KM601s. The multimeter is shown in use for diagnosing automotive electrical issues, industrial electrical systems, and household appliance checks.
Specific Functions:
- NCV (Non-Contact Voltage): Hold the NCV sensor near a conductor. The device will beep and the NCV indicator will light up if AC voltage is detected.
- Live Wire Detection: Use the single live wire test lead (usually the red one) and insert it into the VΩHz™CAP jack. Touch the probe to the live wire. The display will indicate 'LIVE' and an audible alarm will sound if a live wire is detected.
- Flashlight: Press the dedicated flashlight button to turn on/off the integrated LED light for improved visibility in dark environments.
5. Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the multimeter, wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from any circuits before cleaning.
Battery Care
The KM601s uses a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. To prolong battery life:
- Recharge the battery when the low battery indicator appears.
- Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
- If storing the multimeter for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% and recharge every few months.
Storage
Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The included carrying case provides protection during storage and transport.

Fuse Replacement
The multimeter is equipped with internal fuses for protection. If the current measurement function fails, the fuses may need replacement. Fuse replacement should only be performed by qualified personnel. Refer to the specifications for fuse ratings.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your KAIWEETS KM601s multimeter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Multimeter does not power on. | Low or depleted battery. | Charge the multimeter using the provided USB cable. |
| No reading or 'OL' (Overload) displayed. | Incorrect range selected (in manual mode) or measurement exceeds maximum input. | Switch to Smart Mode, or manually select a higher range. Ensure measurement is within specified limits. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Poor test lead connection, dirty probes, or external interference. | Ensure test leads are securely connected. Clean probes. Move away from strong electromagnetic fields. |
| Current measurement not working. | Blown fuse. | Replace the internal fuse (refer to a qualified technician). |
| NCV function not detecting voltage. | Sensor not close enough to the AC source, or voltage is too low. | Ensure the NCV sensor is directly over the live wire. Check for sufficient voltage. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact KAIWEETS customer support.
