This image illustrates the key components of the ACASIS M.2 NVMe SSD Cloner, including the Source (A) and Target (B) slots, Power button, Clone button, and progress indicator lights.

  • Source Slot (A): Insert the SSD containing the data you wish to clone.
  • Target Slot (B): Insert the SSD where the cloned data will be written. The target SSD must be equal to or larger in capacity than the source SSD.
  • Power Button: Turns the device on/off.
  • Clone Button: Initiates the offline cloning process.
  • Progress Indicators (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%): Show the cloning progress.
  • Source/Target Indicators: Light up when SSDs are properly inserted.
  • USB-C Port: For connecting to a computer for online data transfer.
  • DC 5V Port: For connecting the power adapter.

Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Connect Power: Plug the provided power adapter into the DC 5V port on the cloner and then into a wall outlet.
  2. Open Lids: Press the open buttons on the sides of the cloner to release the top lids, revealing the SSD slots.
  3. Insert SSDs: Gently insert your M.2 NVMe SSDs into the designated slots. Ensure they are fully seated. For offline cloning, insert the source SSD into Slot A and the target SSD into Slot B. For online data transfer, you can insert one or two SSDs as needed.
  4. Close Lids: Close the top lids until they click securely into place.
  5. Connect to Computer (Optional for Online Transfer): If you plan to use the device for online data transfer, connect the cloner to your computer using the provided USB-C cable.

Operating Instructions

Offline Cloning

Offline cloning allows you to duplicate an SSD without connecting the cloner to a computer. The target SSD must have a capacity equal to or greater than the source SSD.

  1. Prepare SSDs: Ensure the source SSD is inserted into Slot A and the target SSD into Slot B. Important: All data on the target SSD will be erased during the cloning process. Please back up any important data from the target SSD before proceeding.
  2. Power On: Press the Power button on the cloner. The Power indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Initiate Cloning: Press and hold the Clone button for approximately 5 seconds until the progress indicator lights (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) begin to flash sequentially. This indicates the cloning process has started.
  4. Monitor Progress: The indicator lights will show the cloning progress. Each light will turn solid as that percentage of the cloning is completed.
  5. Cloning Complete: Once the 100% indicator light remains solid (no longer flashing), the cloning process is complete.
  6. Power Off: Press and hold the Power button until the device turns off. You can now safely remove the SSDs.

Note: For Windows users, after cloning to a larger drive, you may need to extend the partition in Disk Management to utilize the full capacity of the new SSD. SteamOS typically handles this automatically.

Online Data Transfer

The cloner can also function as a dual-bay M.2 NVMe enclosure for online data transfer when connected to a computer.

  1. Connect to Computer: Ensure the cloner is powered on and connected to your computer via the USB-C cable.
  2. Insert SSDs: Insert one or two M.2 NVMe SSDs into the slots. The cloner will be recognized as external drives by your operating system.
  3. Transfer Data: You can now access and transfer files to and from the inserted SSDs as you would with any external storage device.

The device supports data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, with tested read speeds of approximately 924MB/s and write speeds of 1052MB/s (actual speeds may vary based on SSD and system configuration).

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ACASIS M.2 NVMe SSD Cloner, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Cooling Fan: The built-in cooling fan helps maintain optimal operating temperatures. Ensure the fan vents are not obstructed. The fan automatically activates during intensive operations like cloning.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ACASIS M.2 NVMe SSD Cloner, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
Device not powering on.Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the device and a working power outlet.
SSDs not detected / indicator lights not illuminating.Ensure SSDs are fully and correctly seated in their slots. Press firmly until they click into place. Verify the SSDs are M.2 NVMe, not SATA.
Offline cloning fails or stops prematurely. The target SSD must be equal to or larger in capacity than the source SSD. Ensure both SSDs are healthy and properly inserted. Overheating can also cause issues; ensure the fan is running and vents are clear.
Cloned drive shows incorrect capacity (smaller than expected). This is common when cloning to a larger drive. For Windows, use Disk Management to extend the partition to utilize the full capacity.
Slow data transfer speeds.Ensure you are using a USB 3.2 compatible port on your computer. Check cable connections. Overheating can throttle speeds; ensure the cooling fan is active.
Fan is noisy. Some fan noise is normal during operation, especially under heavy load. If the noise is excessive or unusual, contact support.
