1. Introduction

The Bonvoisin DY 45 Hot Wire Anemometer is a portable, high-precision instrument designed for measuring air velocity, airflow (CFM/CMM), and air temperature. It features an advanced 8-impeller probe with low-friction bearing technology for sensitive and accurate readings. Equipped with a backlit LCD display, a telescopic handle, and USB connectivity for data logging, this anemometer is suitable for a wide range of applications including HVAC system analysis, environmental testing, and various industrial and outdoor activities.

2. Safety Information

3.1 Main Unit Features

  • LCD Display: Shows measurement values, units, and various indicators.
  • Control Buttons: For power, unit selection, data hold, backlight, and data logging.
  • USB Port: For connecting to a computer for data transfer.

3.2 Telescopic Probe

The anemometer features an 8-impeller probe with a 108 cm (42.5 inch) telescopic handle and a 100 cm (39.4 inch) cable, allowing access to hard-to-reach areas. The probe tip can be bent for easier measurement positioning.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit.
  2. Insert the required batteries (typically 4x AA, refer to packaging) ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Probe Connection

  1. Carefully connect the probe cable to the designated port on the main unit.
  2. Ensure the connection is secure using the threaded connector to prevent accidental disconnection during use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the POWER button to turn the device on.
  • Press and hold the POWER button to turn the device off.

5.2 Measurement Modes (Wind Speed, Airflow, Temperature)

The anemometer measures wind speed, airflow (CFM/CMM), and air temperature simultaneously. The primary measurement will be displayed prominently on the LCD.

5.3 Unit Selection

To change measurement units:

  • Air Velocity Units: Press the UNIT button to cycle through m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots, and mph.
  • Airflow Units: Press the UNIT button to switch between CFM and CMM.
  • Temperature Units: Press the °C/°F button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

5.4 Data Hold, Max/Min, Average

  • HOLD: Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • MAX/MIN: Press the MAX/MIN button to view the maximum or minimum recorded values.
  • The device also provides readings for wind chill, 2/3 maximum, and average wind speed/airflow. Refer to the on-screen indicators.

5.5 Backlight and Auto Power Off

  • Backlight: Press the LIGHT button to turn the backlight on/off. The backlight will automatically turn off after 7 seconds of inactivity to conserve power.
  • Auto Power Off: The device will automatically power off after 10 minutes of inactivity to save battery life.

5.6 USB Connection and Data Logging

The anemometer can be connected to a PC (compatible with Windows 7, XP, 10) via USB for real-time online measurement and data recording. The included software allows for data analysis, export, and printing, supporting up to 500 data sets and graphical plotting.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the probe free of dust and debris.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries and store the device in its protective case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Probe Care: Handle the telescopic probe carefully to avoid bending or damaging the sensitive impellers.
