2. Setup and Initial Use
2.1 Powering On the Device
The MUCAR CS4 scanner does not have a built-in battery. It is powered by the vehicle's OBD2 port or via a USB-C cable.
- Locate the OBD2 port in your vehicle. This is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
- Connect the OBD2 cable from the scanner to the vehicle's OBD2 port. The device will power on automatically.
- Alternatively, connect the device to a power source using a USB-C cable for initial setup or updates when not connected to a vehicle.
2.2 Software Update
It is highly recommended to update the system software to the latest version upon receiving the product to ensure optimal performance and access to the newest features and vehicle models.
- Connect the CS4 to a Wi-Fi network. Navigate to the "Update" icon on the main screen.
- The device will check for available updates. Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install any pending updates.
- Ensure a stable internet connection during the update process.

3.1 4 System Diagnostics
The CS4 scanner provides in-depth diagnostics for four core vehicle systems: Engine, Transmission, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
- Engine System: Reads and clears engine fault codes, views live data, and turns off the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
- Transmission System: Diagnoses issues within the vehicle's transmission, including reading and clearing codes.
- ABS System: Accesses and diagnoses the Anti-lock Braking System to identify brake-related issues.
- SRS System: Checks the Supplemental Restraint System (airbag system) for fault codes and ensures proper operation.
To perform a system diagnostic:
- From the main menu, select "Diagnose".
- The device will automatically detect the vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Confirm the VIN.
- Select the system you wish to diagnose (Engine, Transmission, ABS, SRS).
- Choose to "Read Codes" to view current and pending DTCs, or "Clear Codes" to erase them after repairs.

5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | No power from OBD2 port or USB-C cable. | Ensure the OBD2 cable is securely connected to the vehicle's port. Check the vehicle's battery. If using USB-C, ensure the power source is active. |
| Unable to connect to vehicle. | Incorrect connection, vehicle not OBDII compliant, or vehicle ignition off. | Verify the OBD2 cable connection. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is in the ON position (engine off). Confirm the vehicle is OBDII compliant (most vehicles 1996 and newer in North America). |
| Software update fails or gets stuck. | Unstable Wi-Fi connection, insufficient storage, or server issues. | Ensure a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection. Restart the device and try updating again. If issues persist, contact customer support. |
| Cannot clear codes. | Underlying fault still present, or vehicle ignition not in ON position. | Codes will reappear if the fault causing them is not addressed. Perform necessary repairs first. Ensure ignition is ON. |
